Long Awaited Anime Adaptation of The Witch and the Beast Reveals a New Key Visual

Waiting for 2024 is getting harder.

Summary:

  • The Witch and the Beast is an upcoming dark fantasy anime based on the manga of the same name.
  • Guideau and Ashaf are the two magic investigators and protagonists of the series.
  • A new visual for The Witch and the Beast has been revealed.

The Witch and the Beast (Majo to Yajuu) is a dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Kousuke Satake. It explores a fantasy world where powerful witches exist.

What is the Witch and the Beast about?

There aren’t many ways of breaking a witch’s curse: a loving kiss from a prince on a white horse, hope the wrathful witch has a change of heart, or try something else. And the third choice seems like the best one for our two protagonists. Guideau, a girl who hates witches, and Ashaf, a mage of “The Order of Magical Resonance” work together on magic related cases. Two investigators solve magical mysteries and crimes together, while trying to find the witch that cursed Guideau.

Anime adaptation

The Witch and the Beast manga is still ongoing, and it’s finally going to get an anime! The release date is set to January 2024, and Yokohama Animation Laboratory is the studio that’s working on the adaptation. You won’t find any extremely popular projects on the studio’s works list but there’s hope that The Witch and the Beast is going to be the first one.

An official trailer that was released a couple of months ago got fans excited. The art style gives you some old school Black Butler-ish vibes, and you instantly think of gothic vampires and dark magic. A couple of people mention that The Witch and the Beast reminds them of The Case Study of Vanitas (Vanitas no Karte) combined with The Ancient Magus' Bride (Mahoutsukai no Yome). The overall eerie vibe feels very enjoyable, and fans start adding the series to their watch lists already.

A new key visual portraying the two protagonists is here, and it looks amazing! Ashaf with his emotionless face, cigarette and a coffin on his back looks as enigmatic as ever, and Guideau looks ready to fight with her beasty eyes and untight posture. Night city and dark creatures resembling ravens are giving just the right gothic vibes, and we can’t help feeling hyped to see this all in action.

Fans are also thrilled that The Witch and the Beast is getting more recognition, and they can’t contain their hype. They call the series one of their favorite ongoing manga, and the idea of finally seeing it animated excites them to no end.
