They sure look a bit too close.
Summary:
- The ship between Marcille and Falin has a lot of fans.
- Marcille and Falin are very close in the series.
- The lack of well-written female friendships makes fans see subtext everywhere.
Delicious in Dungeon (Dungeon Meshi) is amazing for a lot of reasons. Most fans think of hilarious humor and outstanding worldbuilding when it comes to praising the series. But there’s another thing that we love about the manga and the anime so much: incredible characters.
It’s not just the characters themselves, but the way they interact with each other. Fans have noticed two girls that interact in a special way, Marcille and Falin. These two had just one possible path: to be shipped.
Most Popular Ship
To be fair, there’s not much room for shipping in Delicious in Dungeon, but fans have chosen Marcille as their “victim.” At first, they thought there was something going on between her and Laios, but then Falin started appearing more in the story, and the man was quickly forgotten.
It has always seemed that Marcille was a bit more eager to save Falin than the rest of the party members. Although we didn’t really see them interact that much, the story gave us a couple of strong hints that these two were really close.
Episode 8 proved it all: we got an entire episode dedicated to the friendship between Marcille and Falin. Fans learned how they met and how they became friends, they saw the chemistry and truly understood how much the girls meant to each other.
Marcille was ready to do anything to save Falin, even use dark magic, and it’s beautiful that she was the one to resurrect her. And now that Falin has rejoined the party, shippers are happier than ever.
The series itself does a good job of provoking the shippers. The bath-time scene in Episode 12 did a lot for that. But it’s not just the fanservice that fans are loving, it’s the actual bond between the girls that they adore.
Lack of Female Friendships
Unfortunately, female characters are still a sore spot for the anime community. They used to be overly sexualized, treated like a supplement for the male lead or just a shallow love interest.
Even now when anime is finally learning how to write strong and independent female characters, there’s still a lack of female friendships, and it’s upsetting.
That’s why it’s so refreshing to see two girls being as close as Falin and Marcille. It’s something that you won’t find in most shows. Fans are so hungry for true and well-written female friendships that they are shocked by them and instantly think that there’s something more going on between the girls.
