Aniplex released a trailer for the second season of Mashle.
The first season is an amazing Harry Potter parody.
The second season is likely to be just as wonderful.
This Sunday, Aniplex has revealed a trailer for the upcoming Season 2 of Mashle: Magic and Muscles. Just like the first season, it’s animated by A-1 Pictures (no surprise here). The trailer reveals the cast (and possibly the punching bags) of the following arcs of this fantastic shounen:
Season 1 was amazing
In the world of Mashle, your magic power determines your place in society. The more powerful your magic is, the higher you can climb the social ladder — so pretty much like in My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia). The difference is, those with a fantastical disability aren’t just mercilessly bullied with no repercussions by definitely-not-villainous hero wannabes (coughcoughBakugocough) — here, they are euthanized whenever discovered. Oof.
Our hero is Mash Burnedead — one of such magicless people. His interests are living a carefree life with his adoptive grandpa, eating cream puffs and pumping iron. Oh, and he has pumped enough iron to give Saitama (One-Punch Man) a run for his money. One day, Mash is discovered by a corrupt magic cop, and is given a choice — to either go on the run with his grandpa (so bye-bye quiet life), or to enroll in the magic academy and become a Divine Visionary (automatically making him untouchable despite his magicless status) through its weird honors system. He chooses the latter.
What follows is a full season of Harry Potter parodies, where our magicless hero literally muscles his way through magic exams despite his inability to cast spells, successfully participates in not-quidditch despite not being able to fly on a broom, and untangles not-Slytherin’s schemes despite not really caring — all in the name of quiet life, cream puffs and (maybe) friendship.
Season 2 seems to be more of the same
Unless you’ve read the manga, there’s not much to be glimpsed from the Season 2 trailer, as it mostly just introduces us to new characters — although that’s telling a lot. It means we’re to expect a direct continuation of the first season, with similar strengths (mostly muscular) and weaknesses (mostly in the form of cream puffs).
Which means that if you loved the first season — be sure to check out the continuation during the Winter 2024 anime season. And if you are yet to watch it, you have until January to check the first season out — which we highly recommend, since gag shounens of this quality are extremely rare.
Season 2 is just around the corner!
