Mission: Yozakura Family EP1 Is Out — Not Similar to Spy x Family at All

And it looks good, too.

Summary:

  • Mission: Yozakura Family Episode 1 is out.
  • It’s not similar to Spy x Family at all.
  • Both anime-only viewers and manga readers are happy about it.

Mission: Yozakura Family (Yozakura-san Chi no Daisakusen) has been one of the most anticipated anime this season. The manga has been serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump, so it already had a huge fanbase before the anime started.

Still, many fans who watched the first episode without any prior knowledge of the source material were pleasantly surprised by it. The premise sounded somewhat similar to that of Spy x Family — but the first episode showed that the anime was totally different.

It’s Not Similar to Spy x Family

Mission: Yozakura Family is much less realistic than Spy x Family. It’s essentially sci-fi spies with superpowers working on the rule of cool — completely different from Spy x Family, which is a more grounded take on the genre.

Furthermore, Spy x Family is a family sitcom — and Mission: Yozakura Family is a slow-burn romance between two teens. Still, they both are largely slice-of-life, especially at the start — the actual story of Yozakura Family might not even be adapted in the first season.

In fact, Yozakura Family is closer to something like Katekyou Hitman Reborn! — which makes older fans nostalgic for the series. That anime was also mostly comedy in the first arcs before it became over-the-top action.

Manga Fans Are Happy About This Adaptation

The first episode made manga fans very happy, too. They have been waiting for this adaptation for a while — the manga started 4 years ago, and only now it is getting an anime.

It will run for 27 episodes, which means we will get the last episode in early October — and fans hope it will continue to be a faithful adaptation.

Many fans are worried, though, that the anime will skip some of the early manga chapters — as if the anime won’t get to the first major arc if it adapts the manga without skipping some content.

The slice-of-life parts are actually liked more than the main story, as they develop the characters better.

It Looks Really Good

The production in the first episode was good — nothing to talk about just yet, as we didn’t get to the main action yet. Still, the character designs are well-adapted, the animation is solid, and the seiyuu cast is on point.

There is a good chance that SILVER LINK won’t screw up a production schedule of two continuous cours, making fans very happy.

And it looks good, too.
