Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Reveals a Teaser Visual: Problematic Isekai is Coming Back?

The second part is coming in April 2024!

Summary:

  • First cour of Mushoku Tensei Season 2 finished airing in September 2023.
  • Second cour is scheduled for April 2024.
  • The new visual is out.
  • A lot of fans find the series very problematic.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu) is an ongoing harem isekai series that started back in 2021. The first season of the anime received a lot of positive reviews, which made Season 2 just a matter of time. The first cour of the season finished airing in September 2023, and the second one is scheduled for April 2024. Have you noticed how many anime are set for April, by the way? It’s going to be a great month for the anime community.

The story follows a 34-year-old man who gets evicted from his home. He realizes that his life has been pretty pointless but wants to do at least one meaningful thing before he dies, so he heroically intercepts a speeding truck heading towards a group of teenagers.

He manages to save one of them before dying. However, this is not the end of his story, and he gets reincarnated in another world as a baby of two loving parents. The protagonist has his old memories intact, so now he’s a child with an adult man mindset and knowledge.

The first season was rather successful, and fans have pointed out great animation and stunning visuals as well as a compelling worldbuilding and the story that can resonate with many.

The second part of Season 2 is still four months away, but we’re already getting some presents: a new visual. It portrays Rudeus and Sylphie walking hand in hand, looking absolutely adorable together. Fans note that Rudeus looks extremely handsome, but are puzzled by his young look.

Since manga readers say it’s an anime-only thing, there are speculations that the adaptation does it so that he won’t look much older and there won’t be a need to change the voice actor for him.

Why is it problematic, though?

If it’s not your first day in this fandom, you’ve already heard various accusations of Mushoku Tensei having questionable content. Since Rubeus was initially an adult man, and he keeps his mentality and memories even after he’s reborn, a lot of fans find his relationships with young girls inappropriate. It’s a good old “is Twilight’s Edward problematic if he’s over 100 years old, and Bella is only 17?” but in anime format.
