Netflix and World Maker have announced a new anime making contest that will start on November 8, 2023 and will continue up until January 8, 2024. The contest will stop accepting submissions at 11:59 pm of that day.

Contestants must create their short (10 minutes or less) anime films in World Maker. Up to 5 projects can be submitted per account and only original works must be included; no worlds, settings, stories, or characters that have been released in any commercial media before can be in the storyboard. The contestants also shouldn’t submit their projects to any other companies or streaming services.

There are no limits as to who can participate in the contest. The official World Maker website states that people of all ages, genders and nationalities are free to join. Their professional status and experience are also unimportant. Submitting is also free of charge, but the company will not cover such things as the production and internet connection costs.

The winner of the contest will receive 500,000 yen (which is about $3,332), and the chance of having their project animated by Netflix. Honorable mentions will also receive a small prize — an Amazon gift certificate for 10,000 yen (about $66). The storyboards will be judged by the Netflix Anime Unit and the Shueisha World Maker team.

The copyright will be owned by the contestants, and Netflix will have the priority when it comes to visualizing the project and adapting it into the anime format. Netflix and World Maker also note that they reserve the right to make some alterations or changes to the project of the winner in order to publish it.

Results will be published around the end of March 2024, and successful candidates will receive a notification in the World Maker app.
