Netflix’s Live Action Yu Yu Hakusho Reveals a New Trailer, and Fans Have Mixed Feelings

New supernatural adventure is coming!

Summary:

  • Yu Yu Hakusho follows Yusuke Urameshi, who investigates supernatural cases.
  • New official trailer has been released.
  • Fans are unsure about the success of the series.

Yu Yu Hakusho is originally an adventure manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. It follows a teen delinquent, Yusuke Urameshi, who died while trying to save a young boy. When it’s time for his soul to be judged and placed to either hell or heaven, the Underworld is surprised, since they were not expecting Yoshihiro to commit this act of altruism. They give him a chance to return to his own body if he completes a set of tests. Which he does, and now he’s chosen to be the Underworld Detective, investigating supernatural activities in the human world.

The manga received an anime adaptation back in the 90s, but it’s been so long that just a few people remember about it for now. So, to refresh their memory and attract more new fans into this epic universe, Netflix is releasing a live action adaptation of the series.

Official trailer is out

Yu Yu Hakusho is coming to Netflix on December 14, 2023, and the new official trailer is here. With the epic soundtrack and awesome-looking action, it gives you the vibes of a Marvel movie trailer. It’s too early to say anything else, but for now Yu Yu Hakusho looks quite good. The characters are solid, and the atmosphere is fitting.

The new trailer made fans bring up some worries, though. From what it looks like, the Netflix series is going to condense a lot of events, and people are nervous that the live action adaptation will rush things and won’t adapt the source material properly.

“It looks like they’re going to be blasting through the arcs,” a fan says.

Expectations are pretty low

We’re all hoping for the best, of course, but the expectations do not seem to be pretty high for now. Fans are upset that Netflix is changing the story a bit and rushing things, but maybe it’s just to adjust the series to the modern standards, since no one can take a second of screen time without being entertained these days. We’ll find out how it turns out only at the end of December, so let’s not lose hope for now.

No matter what their expectations are, fans admit that they’re going to watch the series regardless. Yu Yu Hakusho used to be very dear to some, and although they don’t believe the live action adaptation will surpass the anime one, there’s still a pretty good chance to enjoy the Netflix series.
