Delicious in Dungeon (Dungeon Meshi) is still airing, and the first part of the series is over. Characters have reunited with Falin, and now there’s a new journey on their way.
The journey is not the only thing new that the anime has brought us, there’s also a new opening theme for the series.
Second Opening Is Here
It’s fair to start with praising the opening a bit, as it’s just another masterpiece by Trigger. The characters are weird and quirky for the most part of it as usual, there’s food and monsters, the colors are stunning, and should we ever say anything about the music? Try not to move your feet while listening to it.
Manga readers were surprised by the opening at first, since the story of Delicious in Dungeon is about to get a bit darker, but the new opening seems to be even more positive than the first one. However, then they noticed a couple of interesting things.
Foreshadowing
There’s a scene where all the characters are dancing and just having a great time, but then there are colorful lights all over the screen and it looks like the characters are turning into those lights and floating towards the sky.
The opening ends with Laios waking up next to the rest of his team, hinting at the fact that everything that happened in the previous minute and a half was just a wild dream of his. But what if it wasn’t?
Readers thought it might be a huge foreshadowing of what will happen at the end of the story. Winged Lion will be a major character in the series, and he promises everyone the infinity dimension, a place where he originally comes from.
This is supposed to be a place of happiness where everyone could have a great time, and it sure looks like it in the opening. Moreover, the orbs of colorful lights remind fans of the infinite energy connected with the Winged Lion.
On top of that, the Winged Lion has the ability to appear in prophetic dreams, and Laios’ dreams for that matter. Which can also explain why the opening makes you want to think that it was just happening inside of Laios’ head.
Fans aren’t sure if this is exactly what’s happening in the OP, but it can’t be just a coincidence. Trigger managed to include such a major foreshadowing in the OP without anime-onlys even realizing anything, and manga readers are ecstatic.
