We didn’t expect such good visuals in it.
Summary:
- Too Many Losing Heroines! is coming out this July.
- Fans like the PV for its art direction.
- The anime is made by A-1 Pictures.
Too Many Losing Heroines! (Make Heroine ga Oosugiru!) adapts the light novel of the same name written by Takibi Amamori and illustrated by Imigimuru. The anime premieres in July 2024, but it has already received the first PV and key visual — and fans are loving them.
The premise is weird but fun
This is a romantic comedy focusing on Kazuhiko Nukumizu, an unremarkable guy, who starts talking to Anna Yanami after she gets rejected by her childhood friend. In a very short span of time, Kazuhiko finds himself surrounded by girls who were also rejected — and the story develops from there.
This is an obvious play on the classic anime, manga, and light novel trope where the childhood friend always loses in a romcom or harem series. The entire premise of Too Many Losing Heroines! is that every girl in it belongs to an archetype which normally doesn’t win the protagonist’s affection in the end.
The series stands on a thin line between a parody and an earnest (albeit still lighthearted) take on the genre.
Fans love the visuals
While these self-aware anime concepts are funny, the actual comedy is still not for everyone. Many fans find them repetitive or not different enough from the non-parody examples of the genre. That said, Too Many Losing Heroines! made fans consider actually watching it — and not because of its weird premise.
The art direction in the PV looks amazing. Not many otherwise unremarkable romantic comedies receive that amount of attention to art and design, and this one is a pleasant surprise. People are going to watch it for the animation alone, even if they don’t particularly care about the premise.
A big studio is making the anime
The animation being great can easily be explained if you look at the studio. Too Many Losing Heroines! is being made by A-1 Pictures — one of the biggest studios in the industry. CloverWorks split off from them, and A-1 is famous for using many talented freelancers.
Some of the previous A-1 works include Sword Art Online and Kaguya-sama: Love is War (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen). In fact, the director of Too Many Losing Heroines! previously worked as an episode director on Kaguya-sama. It seems that the anime is in good hands.
