Ninja Kamui Premieres: One of the Best First Anime Episodes?

It gave us wholesome moments to destroy our hopes.

Summary:

  • Episode 1 of Ninja Kamui has just aired.
  • Despite the story being tropey for now, the episode impressed the viewers.
  • They especially point out stunning action and animation.

Ninja Kamui is an original anime produced by E&H Production and Sola Entertainment. The first episode of the series aired on February 11 and surprised us with a lot of things, the main one being the absolute brutality of the world.

Former ninja trying to live his life

Joe is an ex-assassin, who just wants to leave his dark past behind and live a calm and peaceful life with his wife and son. And he gets it… for some time.

But his former “colleagues” are not particularly keen on Joe’s new life; they find and mercilessly murder his family, while trying to take his life away, too. But Joe survives, and he’s full of anger and desire to avenge the ones he loved.

Despite the premise of the anime being rather generic and resembling John Wick a lot, the first episode of the series did incredibly well with a score of 8.1/10 on MyAnimeList. And fans think the production and animation are to thank for that.

Outstanding action

Ninja Kamui looks stunning to say the least. The action sequences surprise you with their beauty and brutality, each fight leaves you wishing for more. And the character design only adds more visual pleasure to the mixture.

As we’ve said, the story seems rather generic so far, but we can see hints at something more coming. There was confusion concerning the seemingly changed character design, but the first episode solves the mystery: there were no alterations, it’s part of the story.

Joe uses a device or a special technique, the nature of which is still unknown, that allows him to change his own appearance as well as the appearance of his family members, and this is what caused the confusion in the previous trailer.

Turns out, the blond man that we saw some time ago was just Joe’s mask, and the trailers were toying with the viewers, making them think the studio altered the character designs.

The first episode of Ninja Kamui is very promising, indeed. The action and animation alone are enough to make you keep watching. And all these little mysteries work just the way they are supposed to: you want to solve them all.

Fans really hope that the series will not get lost among other wonderful projects that are airing now because Ninja Kamui does seem like a high quality anime that knows how to provide a fresh look on a highly overused trope.
