One Piece’s Kaido Is One of the Worst Villains of the Series

One Piece’s Kaido Is One of the Worst Villains of the Series

He could’ve been done much better.

Summary:

  • One Piece’s Kaido is a rather underwhelming villain.
  • He doesn’t stand any comparison to other big villains in the series.
  • Fans wish Kaido had been written better.

One Piece has a lot of incredible characters, both heroes and villains, that’s for sure. And they are one of the reasons why we love the series so much. Well, they, and an absolutely exciting adventure that every episode of the anime brings.

But there’s one villain that just doesn’t work as well as he could have, and this is Kaido.

Not Enough Personality

Kaido is cruel and merciless, just like most villains are, but the thing is, he has nothing else to offer. Pure evil villains have all the rights to exist, not everyone has to be redeemable and have something human in them, but fans expected something different from a character like Kaido.

His character arc has been hyped up for years, so fans anticipated greatness. A villain that would make their skin crawl. They wanted him to be written masterfully and become one of the best villains of the series. But he completely failed at that and stands no comparison to other One Piece villains.

There Are Better Villains in the Series

Fans can’t help but compare Kaido to Big Mom. She was also truly evil, but she was more than entertaining to follow. Big Mom made viewers feel all sorts of things, from disgust to bizarre admiration, and this is why she was such a great villain.

She was a freak of nature and that’s what made her stand out. Her sugary sweet aesthetics and a scarily childlike mindset made her really interesting and terrifying. Big Mom is an exceptional villain that makes you feel, even if it’s hatred you’re feeling.

Kaido Is Underwhelming

But Kaido is nothing like that. The only outstanding thing he’s got is his incredible character design. However, when it’s time to talk about a well-written villain, Kaido is the last One Piece character that comes to your mind.

Fans anticipated a tragic and perhaps even troubled backstory, but One Piece failed to make them feel for Kaido. It’s like the series is just saying “Here, have this extremely strong cool-looking guy,” but forgets to explain why he’s so strong and why we’re supposed to think he’s cool.

Kaido’s development is very one-sided, he lacks depth and fails to impress anyone. He’s just an obstacle in Luffy's way. It’s like there’s something more interesting behind him, and to get there, Luffy needs to take care of Kaido.

Still, fans admit that they enjoyed watching the fight with Kaido. They just wish all the other aspects of this character were as breathtaking and engaging as the action.
