Only One Episode of Solo Leveling is Out, but It Has Already Been Canceled by Viewers

All popular titles go through this.

Summary:

  • Solo Leveling is based on the very popular manhwa by Chugong.
  • People unfamiliar with the manhwa expected something really outstanding.
  • It's hard to tell where Solo Leveling is going since only one episode has been released.

Solo Leveling (Ore dake Level Up na Ken) is not only one of the most anticipated newcomers of the season, but also one of the most controversial. For more than a year, there have been debates about multiple versions of the anime for different countries.

Like any popular project, Solo Leveling has its fans and haters. However, in the case of this anime, things are even tougher. Some viewers are desperate to find even the smallest flaw to brand Solo Leveling a failure.

What is your level?

Solo Leveling is produced by the experienced Japanese studio A-1 Pictures, known for Fairy Tail, Your Lie in April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso) and The Seven Deadly Sins (Nanatsu no Taizai). The anime is based on the very popular manhwa by Chugong.

Everything seems to be in favor of its success among viewers, but high expectations have played a bad joke on the anime adaptation. The first episode was recently released and it is still hard to judge the quality of the anime, but it has already been heavily criticized.

First of all, many people did not like the simplicity of Solo Leveling's plot. People unfamiliar with the manhwa expected something really outstanding and got a story about a loser exploring the limits of his abilities.

The protagonist looks very unremarkable — his actions and character are the same as many other characters in the anime. The main problem is very trivial and resembles a typical isekai (and seasoned anime fans are actually fed up with the different types of isekai we have right now). The events in the first episode don't feel big, even the fights look boring.

Poor Solo Leveling

Solo Leveling certainly doesn't look revolutionary, but it can't be called a failure either. It's hard to tell where the anime is going since only the first episode has been released. We haven't seen any epic plot twists yet — the heroes have just been exploring the dungeon and fighting monsters.

The world of Solo Leveling isn't exactly original, but it looks fascinating. There are evil creatures from another world to fight and hunters of different levels that serve as defenders. The main character belongs to the weakest rank, but he has to do dangerous work to help his family.

The animation is also on a good level — the movements are smooth. Probably we shouldn't be too hasty with our judgment and it's better to wait at least for the second episode.
