Perhaps you shouldn’t be worried after all.
Manga spoilers ahead!
Summary:
- Ruby and Aqua’s relationship is a complicated topic.
- The story might be building towards their romantic relationship.
- It will be better for both of them if there’s no romance.
The Oshi No Ko fandom has been experiencing a sort of meltdown for some time now. Chapter 143 was released a month ago and caused quite a controversy among fans because of the kiss between Aqua and Ruby, who are supposed to be siblings.
The fact that there has been some major foreshadowing at such a relationship only makes the situation worse, and a lot of manga readers are confident: Aqua and Ruby are the endgame, and the story is building towards their romantic relationship.
The Story Can Go Either Way
Right now, both options seem possible: the one with Aqua and Ruby getting together, and the one of them moving on, and a large number of fans feel that the second option is the right one.
The relationship between Aqua and Ruby is indeed controversial. Sarina was in love with her doctor even in her previous life, so it’s natural for her to have those feelings again now that she knows he’s been reincarnated as Aqua.
However, Aqua was never interested in Sarina/Ruby in that way. That’s why the story might go two ways. Route A: Aqua develops romantic feelings, too, and reciprocates Ruby’s affections. Route B: Ruby moves on from her past life and forgets about Gorou.
No Romance Is Better for Them
As of now, Aqua is more focused on revenge than on romantic relationships. He never saw Ruby as a romantic partner. Sarina was his patient in his previous life, and he felt guilty that he couldn’t save her.
This time he won’t risk her life and well-being, that’s why any romance between them is impossible. Protecting Ruby for him means that they cannot be together.
Not going with the romance between these two would also mean a lot for Ruby’s character development. The love between them was Sarina’s love for Gorou.
But she’s not Sarina anymore, she’s been given another chance at life. That’s why she should take this chance and start a new life, find a new goal and a new light.
Ruby needs to realize that she has to let go of Gorou/Aqua and forget about this love. It won’t be easy, knowing how attached the girl is to him, but it’ll take her character development to another level and become the true beginning of her new life, free of old feelings and traumas.
