One of the main reasons for anime fans to watch the series.
Summary:
Parasyte: The Grey is fully out.
Fans of the original manga and anime are satisfied with the series.
Shinichi appeared at the end of the series.
Parasyte: The Grey is a South Korean sci-fi horror television series based on the japanese manga ‘Parasyte’ by Hitoshi Iwaaki. It premiered on April 5, 2024, on Netflix, and all 6 episodes are already out.
Parasyte: The Grey chose a very wise strategy and decided to stay away from the original story of the manga. It is still set in the same world, but features new characters and conflicts.
Instead of Shinichi, there’s now a female protagonist, Jung Su-In, but her story starts in a similar way: a parasite fails when it tries to take over her brain and is forced to stay inside her body.
Is the Series Even Good?
Of course, the most important thing for us is how the manga and anime fans perceived the new series. And you’ll be surprised to learn that they loved it. Live-action adaptations are a sore spot for so many otaku, but Parasyte: The Grey is far from disappointing.
As we’ve said, it was a good idea to go with another plot, since this way the live-action series managed to avoid a lot of manga/anime comparisons, and this is the thing that sank so many live-action adaptations.
The execution in Parasyte: The Grey is top-notch. Contrary to the most common worry, the parasites don’t look weird. The new characters are actually likable, and Jung Su-In manages to make you forget about Shinichi for some time.
Exciting Cameo
And since we’ve started talking about the original protagonist, there’s another incredible thing that happened in Parasyte: The Grey. Shinichi made an appearance at the end of Episode 6!
There wasn’t much of him, he just suddenly appeared and introduced himself. The camera then focused on Shinichi’s right hand, and it was enough to get fans super hyped. It was an absolute cherry on top for those who know the original story.
Moreover, the entire scene made fans wonder about a possible Season 2 of Parasyte: The Grey. No matter how good Season 1 and the new story were, Shinichi, Migi and their bond have a special place in fans’ hearts, so they would love to see a new take on their story as well.
Of course, there are worries that if the live action series tries to adapt the original story, it will butcher it, but Season 1 gives fans plenty of hope that this will not be the case.
