Pochita Just Wanted a Hug, and That’s Why He Chose Denji

Pochita Just Wanted a Hug, and That’s Why He Chose Denji

We all know what the best relationship in the series is…

Summary:

  • Denji and Pochita’s relationship is a very crucial thing for Chainsaw Man.
  • Pochita merged with Denji to save his life, although he knew how powerful he was.
  • He might have done it because he just wanted to experience human interactions.

Denji and Pochita’s relationship has been the reason for many “aww” moments among the Chainsaw Man fandom. Their bond, although pretty weird, is incredibly endearing in the series. And even though we’re extremely happy that this bond happened and that Pochita didn’t allow Denji to just die (otherwise we wouldn’t have Chainsaw Man, duh), we can’t help but wonder why Pochita did this and why he decided to become a hybrid.

After Denji was mortally wounded, he was on the brink of death. Pochita merged with his body, fusing with his heart and becoming part of Denji's anatomy. It’s completely understandable what Denji’s getting out of this deal, but fans are curious about Pochita’s motivation.

Pochita is one of the strongest characters in the series

Despite being a cute canine-looking creature, Pochita is not that harmless. The Chainsaw Devil, which Pochita is, is considered to be one of the most powerful entities in the series. It is capable of consuming other devils, and thus erasing them from existence for good. So Pochita has the ability to kill other devils and the fears they embody permanently, which is a very powerful thing.

Pochita himself knows that, of course, and he must be aware of the true power that he holds and the importance of the said power. So why would he decide to become a hybrid with a human being?

We don’t know for sure why Pochita was consuming devils, but since he’s a devil himself it was hardly due to the desire to save humanity. Maybe it was just fun for him, so he doesn’t truly care about his own powers, and that’s why he was ready to sacrifice them in order to save Denji’s life.

However, other theories are much more endearing. What if the explanation is very simple: Pochita truly cared for Denji? Their bond was genuine, and he wasn’t ready to let his friend go. On top of that, Pochita himself admitted that when he was the Chainsaw Devil, he was so strong that human interactions were impossible for him. And all he ever dreamed of was just someone giving him a hug. And now that he’s a hybrid, and exists together with Denji as one, the chances of fulfilling this dream are much higher.

What if Pochita was just longing for companionship, and his friendship with Denji finally brought some warmth into his existence. He found comfort in a human and that was enough for him, and he wanted Denji to be genuinely happy.
