Pokemon Horizons Dub Is Finally Announced!

Pokemon Horizons Dub Is Finally Announced!

Adventures in Paldea await!

Summary:

  • Pokemon Horizons is the first mainline Pokemon anime without Ash.
  • Its dub is seriously delayed (as always).
  • The dubbed version starts this December.

Pokemon is one of the biggest, and most widely known multimedia franchises in the world — that is no secret. Its new mainline games are released every few years, and since 1997, there is always an anime released alongside them.

Until recently, these anime series followed Ash Ketchum (or Satoshi in Japan) — an eternal 10 year old on his journey to become the Pokemon Master, as he collected the magical critters while traveling through the game regions along with his friends — Misty and Brock in the early seasons, and some of the locals in the newer ones. Except, in 2022, Satoshi/Ash had finally won a Pokemon Championship — and was retired as the protagonist of the series.

The new Pokemon (2023) (also known as Pokemon Horizons: The Series) follows a new duo of protagonists — Liko and Roy in their adventures in Paldea, and — look, we don’t know much beyond that point, because there is no dub available yet. And if you don’t play Pokemon in Japanese, dubs are always better than subs.

Why dubs are better than subs in Pokemon

The localization of the first games of Pokemon — carried over to its anime, of course — began the tradition of adapting everything for the Western markets. Ash is Satoshi in Japan — and like him, Charmander is Hitokage, Sableye is Yamirami, and Vaporeon is Showers (why?!). Original Pokemon names are often puns and portmanteau in Japanese, so properly adapting them makes sense, especially for a franchise aimed at kids.

Which, of course, means that unless you want to double-memorize names of Pokemon (of which there are now over a thousand), watching Pokemon with subs gets confusing, and fast, making timely dubs all the more imperative. Except, there were 27 episodes of this new series already, and not a single one is officially dubbed yet.

Where is the Pokemon Horizons dub?

The Pokemon dub in general has one major issue — it was always released with a significant delay. This meant that even as Pokemon (2023) was airing its 10th episode, the dub was still catching up with the last episodes of the previous entry in the series. This delay is baffling, especially considering how dependent Pokemon Company is on worldwide support — but for some reason, it is par for the course for the franchise.

And good news — the wait is almost over! On November 9th, we received an announcement that the dubbed version of Pokemon Horizons will begin this December!

Are you excited? Because we are!
