What does the titan shifter have to say?
Summary:
- The release date of the interview and some details about it.
- Yuki Kaji was the one to write a number of lines for the project.
Having an interview with your favorite anime character feels like a dream come true for some, but the lucky ones to actually get it are faithful yeagerists and Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) stans. The Japanese broadcasting corporation NHK decided to publish an interview with none other than Eren Yeager himself, which is the first time that an anime character gets this treatment.
Things you should know about the interview
The interview was published on October 23rd and is 20 minutes long. Yuki Kaji, Eren’s Japanese voice actor, couldn’t be left out of this event, and he’s the one to voice our beloved character once again. This special is dedicated to the upcoming release of the final part of the Attack on Titan anime, which will be broadcast on NHK on November 4th.
The lucky ones who are from Japan or speak Japanese have already experienced the interview and say that it was quite interesting (especially if you love Eren), explored some curious details about the anime and reminded us of the things that made Attack on Titan so dear to us.
The small pieces of the interview can already be found online with the translation kindly provided by the fans. Some of the things discussed in the interview are the reasons behind Eren’s fighting and constant moving on, declaring war on himself, his upbringing and relationships, the love he has for the ones close to him.
The screenwriting behind the interview
We don’t know how many of Eren’s answers were written by Isayama for the interview, but Yuki Kaji mentioned on his Twitter page that he took part in the screenwriting process. He mentions declining the offer to do so at first because he felt intimidated by the idea. However, upon learning that Isayama himself asked him to do that, the voice actor decided to accept the request. As Yuki Kaji says, the mangaka wanted to blur the line between work and reality, and the seiyuu was the best person to do it, since he knew Eren very well due to playing him for more than 10 years. The voice actor tried to collect everything he knew about his character and project himself onto him to create parts of the interview.
Yuki Kaji also tried to avoid any crucial story spoilers since the interview was going to air before the anime finale. He mentions that this and the fact that there were some things that he “shouldn’t write” didn’t let him fully express himself, and he hopes to get another chance to elaborate on that.
