Hunters

Hunters are seemingly regular people who possess supernatural abilities, which they use to battle monsters in dungeons. They are the only ones who can close the magic gates that keep appearing throughout the world by battling frightening monsters inside.

Hunters are not a mystery for other people in the world of Solo Leveling. They’re respected, and some of them can even become rather famous. Hunters are usually organized into guilds, which can have up to hundreds or even thousands of members.

Ranking system

Each hunter has a particular rank that depends on their strength. Ranks are divided into levels corresponding to a letter in the alphabet. There are S, A, B, C, D and E ranks, with S being the strongest and E being the weakest.

On top of that, the power difference even between the two ranks that are next to each other can be huge. For example, an A-rank can easily overpower a B-rank, and an S-rank is absolutely unbeatable by anyone with a lower rank.

A hunter's rank is determined the moment they get their powers. Moreover, their rank remains forever and cannot be upgraded. However, Jinwoo is an exception, since his situation is different. That’s why the series is called “Solo Leveling”; it’s because he’s the only hunter who can level up.

Ranks are very important for hunters, since their well-being, reputation and even income depend heavily on them. The higher the rank, the greater the demand on a particular hunter is, which means better rewards and more fame.

Dungeons

Dungeons are the areas that hunters can enter through magical gates that randomly appear throughout the world. There are usually numerous monsters inside, and a boss. If hunters manage to clear the dungeon, it will close after a while.

If a dungeon isn’t closed within seven days after it appeared, the monsters inside will be able to get out into the human world and attack people.

Dungeons have ranks (also S-E), and it’s important for hunters to know it in order to be able to survive. For example, a C-rank hunter would hardly deal with a B-rank dungeon because the monsters there would also be stronger.
