Spice and Wolf Remake Episode 1 Is Out: What Do Fans Think?

It’s finally here!

Summary:

  • Spice and Wolf remake Episode 1 has just aired.
  • Both teams of viewers, old and new, are happy with it.
  • The beginning of the episode hints at the full adaptation.

Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf (Ookami to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf), aka the Spice and Wolf remake, finally released its first episode on April 1, 2024. And no, this is not an April Fools’ joke, Holo and Lawrence are really back!

When we’re talking about remakes, there are usually two types of viewers: the ones who’ve seen the original anime and the ones who haven’t. And in this particular case, it seems like both teams are satisfied.

New Viewers Reception

Spice and Wolf starts rather strongly, the first episode surprises fans with its beauty and fascinating world. But the best attraction is the main duo of the series, of course, Holo and Lawrence.

It’s difficult not to fall in love with their dynamic straightaway. Holo and Lawrence seem like complete opposites: one is reserved and serious, and the other is playful and eccentric. And we know how well such duos usually work.

What surprised a lot of new fans about Holo is her personality, though. It was easy to think she would be just a cute, shy, and kind deity judging by the posters and knowing very little about her. But as it turns out, she’s nothing like that. Holo seems mischievous and even a little bit smug, which is fairly refreshing.

Although there wasn’t much interesting in the episode story-wise, it was a good introduction. Viewers got the chance to learn a couple of things about the world and its characters, and it was enough to catch their interest.

Old Fans Reaction

The thing that hyped the old fans the most was the beginning of the episode. We don’t want to spoil anything if you’re a Spice and Wolf newbie, but the first couple of minutes hint at the fact that the remake will adapt the entire series, and this is something fans have been dreaming of for ages.

The new designs don’t seem to bother fans so much anymore, a lot of them actually prefer the remake’s style. The anime is a pleasure to look at, and Holo and Lawrence both look incredible.

The pacing of the series stays the same, so you shouldn’t worry about the remake rushing things or dragging the story out. The adaptation is really trying to make things right this time, and this is amazing.

Everyone is so in love with Holo as they were back in 2008, and it’s not just the nostalgia speaking. Episode 1 is extremely promising, and the remake has fans’ full attention now.
