Suguru is German and Satoru is Swede Reimagining Jujutsu Kaisen Characters' Nationalities

Fans discuss the nationalities of JJK's characters. But wait, they're all Japanese. What's going on?

Summary

  • Suguru resembles a German.
  • Sukuna resembles a Roman.
  • Megumi resembles a Scottish.

Main Characters

Nanami, Satoru, Suguru and Megumi are native Japanese names without any doubt. And there is no question about their nationality. But what nationalities do each JJK character resemble? There's a controversy on the web.

Jujutsu Kaisen spoilers ahead!

Suguru is German. Why? Fans find the answer simple: both he and one-German-man-with-moustasche hate a group of people, and both committed mass genocide.

Kenjaku is Greek. It’s still unclear why Kenjaku decided to possess Itadori's mother's body, but one thing is certain — at that time he gave birth to Yuji. Remember all those Greek gods and what they always do? Well, we know you know what we mean. The gods were way too horny and liked to possess bodies of random people (or even animals). Basically Kenjaku resembles Zeus. That’s most likely the reason why fans chose Greek.

Sukuna is Roman. Because he rules Itadori’s body like an Emperor.

Megumi is Scottish since when people think of the UK, the main stereotype is that most people who live there are depressed and that it always rains. We agree: Megumi is too depressed – just look at his face! He’s driven by negative thinking and lack of trust in others. He has every right to do so, considering he was left orphaned by his parents.

Side Characters

Toji as an American is the most fitting one, we guess. Glock pistol is the answer – he shoots up high school students and he loves guns. Also, fans say that Toji always stays strapped (good joke, we admit) and doesn't pay child support, so he's already an honorary American.

Panda is Chinese. Stereotypes are everywhere, but what can we do? Our brain makes our thinking process primitive, and we usually can’t fight it.

Maki is Australian. People joke about Australia being full of the most dangerous animals on earth and that Australians are incredibly strong to be able to live there. Well, Maki deserves this status too: she's not well-liked in the Zenin clan but still stays strong and during the Shibuya incident, she suffers several major wounds and even loses an eye.

Uraume is Russian. It fits because Uraume has ice powers and Russia (not ICEland, by the way) has tons of evidence of it.

While we've tried to explain the fans' logic, questions still remain: for example, why is Gojo a Swede and Itadori is a Canadian? Maybe you can find answers to these questions on your own.
