After the news about the end of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga in 2024, fans started actively discussing possible options for the story. Of course, everyone is concerned about the fate of the main characters, but they also don't want to see a trite ending.
Jujutsu Kaisen has not proven to be a destroyer of typical shonen tropes, so it is very likely that the story will end with the defeat of the evil forces. However, Sukuna's victory could greatly enhance the experience of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Long-lasting battle
The fight with the King of Curses began many chapters ago with the battle between Sukuna and Gojo. The finale of their confrontation was very upsetting to fans, but it also showed how determined Gege is as a writer. Taking the most popular character out of the story is a bold move that immediately attracts a lot of attention.
However, it can't be said that Jujutsu Kaisen avoids many of the other tropes we're familiar with. There's still a protagonist who grows stronger, mentors, and a confrontation between good and evil.
Gradually, Sukuna's battles with various sorcerers became boring to watch — it follows the same scenario over and over again, where another opponent enters the battlefield, but fails because the time to defeat the villain has not yet come.
It was a big mistake on Gege's part to leave only two villains for the final arc. Still, this battle has to end somehow, but it seems that both options will be criticized.
Not only for Jujutsu Kaisen, but for the shonen as well
While many don't see Sukuna's victory as a good scenario, it may not be so bad and could even be pleasantly surprising. First of all, Sukuna is a charismatic enough villain whose success won't be felt so painfully.
Bad guys in general are one of the best parts of Jujutsu Kaisen, and it's obvious that Gege spent a lot of time developing them.
Defeating the forces of good will fit well into the already dark world of Jujutsu Kaisen. While many say that viewers won't get the satisfaction of a bad ending, this development won't come out of nowhere, but will simply be the logical result of all the horrible events that have gone before.
Sukuna's victory could also herald a revolution in shonen. Usually these stories end well despite all the hardships, and so many members of the genre seem predictable.
Now audiences are positively welcoming the twists that confound expectations and the unusual angles (like Frieren, which is also a shonen). If Gege leaves the villain as the winner in the finale, the stakes in shonen will increase significantly.
