Tales of Wedding Rings is a Bad Mix of Many Genres, Let Us Explain Why

There are really so many genres!

Summary:

  • Tales of the Wedding Rings is an anime from the little-known studio Staple Entertainment.
  • The first episodes were a big exposition into the lore of Tales of Wedding Rings.
  • Tales of Wedding Rings has various genres — romance, harem, fantasy, action, and even ecchi.

There are many exciting new releases and sequels to beloved anime this season. However, there are also disappointing titles that, for various reasons, failed to live up to expectations or just looked bad.

Tales of Wedding Rings, from the little-known studio Staple Entertainment, has not so many problems, but the main one spoils the whole viewing experience.

Another harem?

The first episodes were a big exposition into the lore of the series, which doesn't look innovative, but it can't be called bad either. Tales of Wedding Rings is about a humble guy, Haruto, who met a beautiful girl as a child and fell in love at first sight. When they grew up, the girl had to leave, but not to another city or country, but to another world.

Sounds like an isekai, but without the death of the main character. In the other world, Haruto, as usual, becomes a very important person — in this case a king. Now he has to find all the princesses who will become his wives and give him great power to defeat the evil forces.

Poor mix of genres

Tales of Wedding Rings offers hints of various genres — romance, harem, fantasy, action, and even ecchi (although it's probably not such a surprising neighbor to harem). The biggest problem, however, is that there are many elements, but they are poorly combined, with some parts given disastrously little time.

Thus, fantasy remains an almost unrevealed element in Tales of Wedding Rings. Although the plot revolves around magic, the whole idea of the magic rings is primarily to reveal the harem. The various races of the world's inhabitants are also not different in any way — they all have relatively similar characteristics (except for their appearance).

The romance in Tales of Wedding Rings, as in most harems, is weakly handled. A Sign of Affection (Yubisaki to Renren) looks much more appealing this season. Sure, there's some chemistry between Haruto and Krystal, but the awkward moments typical for ecchi anime spoil this storyline.

In general, the typical ecchi tropes take over and Tales of Wedding Rings becomes an anime about the main character's sexual maturation instead of his adventures in another world.

Still, visually everything looks pretty good, although a bit simple. Tales of Wedding Rings might be a good choice for fans of the harem genre.
