The Blue Wolves of Mibu Gets a New Visual: What’s Up With All the “Blue” Titles Anyway?

Ronins and justice are on their way

Summary:

  • The Blue Wolves of Mibu is an upcoming historical anime scheduled for 2024.
  • It follows Nio, who is a swordsman, passionate for justice.
  • A new visual for the series has been released.

The Blue Wolves of Mibu (Ao no Miburo) is an upcoming historical anime, based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Tsuyoshi Yasuda. The series is rather fresh, since it began its run just a couple of years ago, in 2021. And now we’re getting an anime adaptation! The adaptation was announced in September 2023. Maho Film is working on the anime, and the series is scheduled for Fall 2024.

What is it about?

The story of the Blue Wolves of Mibu is set in the 19th century in Kyoto. Nio is an orphan who can't help dreaming of a better world. He is an honest and kind soul who's considerate of his family. His life takes a turn when he meets Toshizou Hijikata and Souji Okita, who are members of a group of hated ronin known as the Miburo. Nio decides to join them, and thus starts his journey in search of justice that will allow him to create the world he wishes to see.

New visual is out

The new visual portrays Nio and other members of Shinsengumi, which is an elite group of swordsmen that was founded to protect the shogunate representatives in Kyoto. Their uniforms are blue, and the entire picture looks… well, blue.

We’ve been seeing a lot of “blue” anime lately (Blue Box, Blue Lock, Blue Exorcist), but we don’t really mind. Even Nio’s eyes are bright blue! Fans are already joking about the Blue Anime Universe. Sounds interesting, don’t you think?

The visual reminded fans of Bleach, and they say that the Blue Wolves of Mibu’s character design looks like the one of that series a lot. Which is a good thing, and there’s already hope that the vibe of the Blue Wolves of Mibu will be similar to Bleach’s. However, the historical genre of the series makes us doubt that.

Some fans also mention Gintama and say that any media related to Shinsengumi will always tie back to this series for them.

There still haven’t been any trailers for the Blue Wolves of Mibu yet, but we can’t wait to see what Maho Film is going to do with the adaptation. Since it’s a series about ronins, epic fights are meant to come, so we’re looking forward to seeing a lot of spectacular action.
