The Wait is Over: Dorohedoro Sequel Announced!

The Wait is Over: Dorohedoro Sequel Announced!

Oh my god, it’s happening. Everybody stay calm.

Summary:

  • Season 1 of Dorohedoro finished airing in 2020.
  • There hasn’t been any information about a sequel since then.
  • Season 2 has been announced, and a new poster is here.

It’s impossible to stay calm, though, since a sequel to Dorohedoro is finally announced! Fans have been asking for it for years, and those who have never lost hope are winning today.

Dorohedoro is based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Q Hayashida. The true beauty of the manga is that it’s finished, so if you’re one of the impatient ones who couldn’t be bothered to wait for the second season, you probably know how the story ends by now.

But if you’re a faithful anime-only, this is your lucky day!

Dorohedoro is set in a near post-apocalyptic future, where humans and sorcerers are two distinct species. The series follows Caiman, who has a reptilian head as a result of a sorcerer’s magic, and Nikaido, a restaurant chef.

Season 2 is on its way

The first season of Dorohedoro finished airing in 2020, and finally, after almost four years of waiting, we have some news. The sequel for the anime has been officially announced, and fans could not be happier.

Unfortunately, the announcement itself and a poster with the two main protagonists are all we have for now. The release date, staff and other details are yet to be revealed. And we’re nothing if not patient. We managed to wait for four years for the announcement, we’ll manage again.

The series is not forgotten

Fans think that Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) is to be “thanked” for the production delay, since the director of the series, Yuichiro Hayashi, was working on both projects. And now that Attack on Titan has reached its finale, Hayashi can go back to Dorohedoro.

A number of people even thought that MAPPA forgot about Dorohedoro, but they’re super excited to learn that it isn’t true. We don’t know, though, if MAPPA is the studio that will work on the sequel yet, since the official announcement doesn’t mention it, but fans think that there won’t be a change of the studio. MAPPA would hardly let go of such a promising project.

To say that fans are hyped is to say nothing. The first season of Dorohedoro was a great success, and knowing that it’s coming back is a big deal for the fandom. It’s a “screaming, crying, throwing up” type of news, and we totally understand that.

As we’ve mentioned, there isn’t any release date for now, but fans are hoping that Season 2 will arrive somewhere in 2025. Maybe even late 2024, if we’re lucky, but if we’re being honest, we doubt that.

We’d rather the studio took their time to provide the best possible adaptation. Because this is exactly what Dorohedoro deserves.
