What is he really like?
Summary:
- Sebastian seems to be a very powerful demon.
- There is a theory that it’s not true, though.
- He might be an outcast in Hell, that’s why he wants to prove himself to humans.
Despite being part of the main duo, Sebastian is one of the most mysterious characters in Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji). We know he’s a demon, we know he has a contract with Ciel, but we know nothing of his origins and how strong he really is compared to other demons.
It’s obvious that fans love to think that Sebastian is incredibly powerful. He’s a fan-favorite and we all love to believe that our faves are unbeatable. We’ve seen plenty of his power, and it feels like there’s nothing he can’t do. But what if this is a mistake?
Sebastian is actually… weak!
Yes, you heard that right. There’s a theory that Sebastian might not be one of the strongest demons in Hell, and it actually sounds like a good idea.
Sebastian seems much stronger than anyone else in the series, and it’s obvious that there are a lot of humans and other beings that are supposed to be weaker than demons. But what if we compare him to other demons?
There are multiple gags featuring Sebastian, including his peculiar love for cats, of course! He’s always the first one to show off and express his superiority to humans. On top of that, Sebastian might come off as a narcissist. And fans think there’s a reason for that.
He might be a weirdo
Imagine him being an odd and rather weak demon who doesn’t have a high position in Hell? Other demons find him quirky for his love for cats and aren’t really threatened by him.
Sebastian might be a true outcast in the demon society, and he wants to prove his worth, that’s why he’s fighting so hard for Ciel’s soul and cannot leave his victim alone. He wants to matter.
Moreover, after being considered a commoner for centuries by his fellow demons, Sebastian just wants his own moment to shine, that’s why he uses every chance he gets to show off a little bit in the human world. This is the place where he’s feared and respected, and he enjoys it.
Fans also remember a post from Yana Toboso’s old blog, which said that Sebastian was indeed an outcast among demons due to his love for cultivating souls instead of just devouring them, and others found it weird.
Which once again proves that he’s not like other demons and he wasn’t accepted in Hell well, so he found a way to prove himself in the human world.
