Let it be a remake, please.
Summary:
- The Tokyo Ghoul anime is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
- The series is rumored to receive a new project.
- Fans hope that an anime remake is on its way.
Tokyo Ghoul is the type of series that people mostly remember when it’s time to discuss horrid anime adaptations nowadays. But this time is different, since the reason might be a very positive one.
The first season of the Tokyo Ghoul anime aired in July 2014, and the series is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Ten years, can you even believe that? It feels like it was only yesterday that we first saw Kaneki losing his mind.
Judging from a recent domain registration, a special Tokyo Ghoul anniversary project might be coming. There haven’t been any official details, so the thing is yet to be confirmed, but even the idea of coming back to this anime makes fans super excited.
What can we expect?
The thing that fans want the most is a remake of the anime, of course. Tokyo Ghoul got all types of criticism because of its deviation from the manga, questionable storytelling decisions and overall poor quality of the adaptation. But the manga was always good, and readers cannot forget about it even now, 10 years after it was finished.
That’s why the idea of a Tokyo Ghoul remake fills fans with joy. They truly hope that this time the series will get the adaptation it deserves, which will bring back at least some of the hype it was getting 10 years ago. Just imagine seeing dozens of people wearing the Kaneki mask at various fan conventions again. Sounds like a dream!
The only thing fans are unsure about is the animation studio. The original adaptation was by Pierrot, and viewers cannot forgive them for what they did with Season 2 of the series. They’re also concerned about censorship, since the studio is censoring a lot of blood and gore in Bleach, and there’s no Tokyo Ghoul without violence.
Of course, a remake is not the only option for this mysterious project (if it’s really happening at all), and fans think that something of a lesser scale might be coming. A couple of OVAs, for example, or just an exhibition. But it seems like most members of the fandom agree that a remake is the best possible choice.
Tokyo Ghoul is a great and very popular manga, after all, and the anime didn’t do it justice one bit. That’s why even the idea of it getting another chance is more than just exciting.
