We don’t want more studios suffering the same fate.
Summary:
Fans have noticed that Wit has a lot of anime in production.
They’re concerned that it might affect the studio in a negative way.
The news about the One Piece remake only intensifies their worries.
The state of the anime production industry has been quite worrisome for some time now due to the various leaks and news about the working conditions that some studios create for their animators. MAPPA has been the “star” of this discussion of course, but fans understand that one studio is not the whole issue, others can also be in danger of crunch and unfair treatment of their staff. And the Wit studio is the one that makes us nervous this time.
Wit has a lot to work on
Don’t worry, there haven’t been any Wit scandals (yet?), but fans have noticed the significant number of projects that the studio is working on right now, and they are wondering how Wit is going to deal with the amount of work. After all, such big projects as Spy x Family, Great Pretender, Suicide Squad Isekai, Grimm and One Piece remake are in the works by this studio, and these are the series that come with great expectations.
MAPPA has twice as many employees as Wit, and they still have it rougher. So the worry is that Wit will not be able to deal with a great number of projects, and it will leave the studio with four options: drop some of the projects, hand them over to another studio, postpone them or follow in MAPPA’s footsteps and set unreasonable deadlines for the production staff. And all of these options are upsetting.
One Piece remake requires more staff
Along with the One Piece remake announcement, George Wada, the president of Wit, revealed a small message, where he asks creators to join the studio’s team in order to “excite everyone around the world once again with the classic story of One Piece.” This message worried quite a few people, since it’s obvious that Wit doesn’t have enough staff to work on the remake. It also raised a question of eager fans joining the studio, ready to work under any conditions.
However, not all predictions are that negative. First of all, some of the projects have been in production for some time already, and Wit has had enough time to work on them. The soon-to-be-aired anime are close to their completion, so they only require a couple of final touches. Besides, the One Piece remake will hardly air anytime soon, and there’s hope that the studio will take its time to properly adapt the series without putting their employees through hell.
