Denji is ready to do anything just to have a moment of privacy with Makima, and when she promises to fulfill any of his wishes, he loses his mind. He doesn’t care if he has to deal with every devil by himself: he’ll do it and will deserve Makima’s respect and affection. But did this romance ever have any real chances?

Most fans, especially manga readers will tell you “of course not.” Yes, Denji’s infatuation was real, and he himself admitted to feeling something for Makima. Her touch was the only one he craved and he even said that he didn’t need a kiss from anyone else because dirty things feel great only when you do them with someone special.
However, Makima is another story. There are still fandom debates over whether Makima truly cared for Denji or not, but the truth is cruel: she never loved him.
A number of manga readers suggest that there was some bizarre and twisted feeling of care coming from Makima, but it was definitely not romantic love. After all, Denji managed to defeat Makima only because she never paid any attention to him and didn’t even bother to memorize his scent.
