A conversation we never had, but wish we had.
Summary:
- Eren talked to all his friends in the Paths in Attack on Titan finale.
- Levi didn’t comment on this, but it would make a lot of sense for him to also have a conversation with Eren.
- Levi would try to reason with the boy for the last time.
At the end of Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) it was revealed that Eren visited all of his friends in the Paths. While his conversations with Armin and Mikasa were given a lot of attention in the series, things that he discussed with other members of the Survey Corps were left unsaid. But the finale hints at the fact that Mikasa and Armin were not the only ones. Which must include Levi, since he’s one of the most crucial Attack on Titan characters as well as a very important person in Eren’s life. So what could these two possibly discuss in the Paths?
Levi and Eren are important to each other
The idea of Eren and Levi also having a conversation makes a lot of sense. Their relationship was always very essential for Eren’s character development, since Levi played the role of a mentor and even a weird father figure to him sometimes. We’re sure Ereri shippers have also got a couple of things to add on this topic, but it’s not about romance now, we’re talking about their canon connection.
Eren and Levi had a couple of meaningful conversations before. For example, when Eren was struggling with his titan powers, Levi was the one to comfort him and explain the others’ reaction. Or after the death of Levi’s squad, both of them discussed what had happened and the captain was the one who calmed Eren down and told him that it wasn’t his fault. So, it would just make sense if Levi kept trying to reason with Eren even after the boy started the Rumbling.
Levi himself mentions that there was so much he still wanted to tell Eren, and we can feel regret and immense pain in him due to the fact that he couldn’t stop Eren, couldn’t influence him one last time. Even after the beginning of the Rumbling, Levi was ready to accept Eren and forgive him. He promised to just kick him one last time if he was to stop the horrors.
It’s upsetting that we never got to see them talk one more time
All of that leads to the fact that these two were indeed important to each other, and it would just make a lot of sense for them to also have a final conversation in the Paths. We imagine Levi would kick Eren first (because of course) but then try to change the boy’s mind and reason with him. Levi understands Eren very well, so he knows how to get to the titan shifter. He would remain calm and logical, trying to propose a peaceful way of resolving the conflict. Levi might also feel guilty for not trying to talk to Eren before.
Although Eren has become much more badass and arrogant over time, it doesn’t mean that his respect for Levi has to disappear. We definitely think he would get emotional with the captain, but he wouldn’t dare hurt the man. Eren would listen to Levi and might even apologize for his actions, but we highly doubt that there was any power in the world that could interfere with his plan. A sad and painful hug between these two feels like something impossible, but we can dream, right?
