It’s difficult to deny that Holo is the true heart of Spice and Wolf (Ookami to Koushinryou). Thousands of fans fell for her back in 2008, when the original anime was first released, and now that the remake of the series is airing, people remember Holo again.
Holo’s personality is a big mystery, and old fans joke that even the two seasons of the original anime weren’t enough to fully comprehend what type of person she really is. But there are some hints, of course.
Dere Types
We’re sure you’ve heard such words as “yandere” and “tsundere” already, but did you know that there were more of them? "Dere" comes from a Japanese word that means "to be love-struck," and dere types show how various characters express their love affections.
While some fans think that Holo is not actually any of the dere types due to how intricate her personality is, others found an interesting type called “teasedere,” and we have to admit that it fits Holo perfectly.
Teasedere
It’s quite easy to understand from the name of this type that it has to do something with teasing, and it’s true. Teasedere tend to be very playful and they enjoy toying with their love interests.
Love is a game for them, but it doesn’t mean that they’re being dishonest and just flirting for fun. Holo ended up together with Lawrence after all, and started a family with him. What other proof do you need to understand that she’s serious about him?
Teasedere are usually very confident and even manipulative; they like seeing their love interest flustered. Even if you’re a Spice and Wolf newbie, you’ve already noticed how much Holo enjoys making Lawrence uncomfortable with the lack of her clothes and odd comments. She’s not trying to be mean to him — this is how she has fun.
Due to the way teasedere show their affection, it’s sometimes difficult to tell whether they’re being genuine or are just toying, and this applies to the Holo and Lawrence situation a bit too well. It took the man quite some time to realize that Holo took a true liking to him.
But teasing often leads nowhere, so there comes a moment when teasedere understand that it’s not enough and they have to be kind and attentive to their love interest. Holo is also capable of slowing down and showing real affection towards Lawrence.
