Tokyo Ghoul

Although it feels rather weird to keep talking about Tokyo Ghoul in 2023, and with 2024 around the corner, we think that there’s always time to remember the classics. Even though this anime started almost ten years ago, the anime world still remembers how big this series used to be. Everyone was obsessed with it and Kaneki, there was no anime convention without dozens of fans wearing the Kaneki mask, and the fandom is not entirely dead even now when both the anime and the manga are finished.

The demise of Tokyo Ghoul happened when Season 2 of the anime was released, and caused fans’ outrage. It was boring, it made no sense, and, most importantly, it deviated from the manga a lot. The last thing was exactly what killed the series for so many people, and Tokyo Ghoul is now forever remembered as one of the “manga was better” anime.

The Promised Neverland

This series' fate is extremely similar to Tokyo Ghoul. Season 1 was phenomenal, and although we don’t want to be too provocative, we would like to say that it was one of the best anime seasons there are. Like, ever! The setting, the suspense, the characters, the conflict — everything was fascinating and highly entertaining. It’s still one of the series that is recommended to watch for anyone asking for anime suggestions, and we 100% understand why.

But just like with Tokyo Ghoul, Season 2 of The Promised Neverland happened, and ruined everything. Boring, full of questionable decisions and deviating from the manga. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

The series have to be remade

We can’t help but feel extremely upset by the fates of these truly phenomenal series. This all drives us to a simple conclusion: it would be great if they received another chance. We understand that more time has to pass for it to become possible. Especially with The Promised Neverland which was released not so long ago. But we have hope that a brave animation studio will learn from all the mistakes that were previously made while adapting these two series, and provide a faithful adaptation that will make fans fall in love with these series again.

Spoiler: they both need a remake.
