What would you like to see happen in the finale?
Summary:
- Fans think the Black Butler manga might be approaching its end.
- One of the ideas for the finale is a Season 2 ending.
- There are other ending theories, too.
The Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) manga has been around for almost 18 years, and a lot has happened in the series since Chapter 1. For starters, there are two Ciels now, and it seems that the story is leading up to their clash.
It’s impossible to say when the manga will finally reach its conclusion, but readers feel that it’s much closer than we think. Which makes them speculate about possible endings, and they think that Season 2 of the Black Butler anime might be a big clue.
Season 2 Ending
As you may already know, Season 2 of the anime wasn’t actually an adaptation at all, but an original idea set in the same universe with the same characters. This is why so many fans dislike this part of the series and consider it non-canon.
Season 2 ends with Sebastian trying to devour Ciel’s soul, but failing. As a result, Ciel becomes a demon as well, and yet he doesn’t part ways with his charming butler. Instead, they continue their journey together as a pair of demons.
Viewers weren’t big fans of such a finale back in the day, but they think it would be curious if the manga had a similar ending. No one wants Ciel to die and have his soul consumed by Sebastian, so why not turn him into a demon?
Sebastian doesn’t even have to stay by his side, it would still be a very interesting conclusion to the manga.
Other Ideas
This isn’t the only possible option, of course. Black Butler has always been a rather dark series, so fans expect its finale to be dark, too.
What if Sebastian actually succeeds in devouring Ciel’s soul? This will be heartbreaking and sad, but still very fitting in the vibe of the manga. Of course, fans want Ciel to reach his goal before that and the contract between him and Sebastian to be fulfilled. But then it’ll be time to say goodbye.
Another tragic idea is very simple: no one wins. Imagine both Ciels lose and die one way or another, Undertaker fails at all of his sly plans, and Sebastian is never able to consume Ciel’s soul. Make them all kill each other, and you’ll have the perfect twisted ending.
One thing that’s clear is that no one really wants Sebastian to die at the end of the manga. There’s hardly any chance of that happening, but even if there is, we sincerely hope that Yana Toboso decides to go with another idea.
