Tanjiro’s first encounters with demons showed how great the series was.
The Mount Natagumo Arc was the first moment when the true potential of the anime was revealed.
Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) is famous for a reason. It has everything that you want in your shounens: stunning art style, heart-wrenching drama, epic battles, exciting actions, and compelling characters. But as it goes with a lot of the series you watch, there’s this one moment or detail that makes you understand that this is an anime you really love and want to keep watching until the very end. So what is it in Demon Slayer?
The first episode is incredible
Although it’s such an uninteresting and obvious choice, the first episode and the exposition are what make you, if not fall in love, then definitely start falling in love with the anime. There’s nothing we’ve never seen before: the main protagonist loses his family, he wants to protect the one he loves, he wants to get revenge, yada yada. But the way it’s done, the cinematography of the episode, the characters, the music — all of that blends together masterfully. You may not think that Demon Slayer will be extraordinary at that moment, but you understand that it’ll definitely be worth your time.
Demon Slayer’s fights are really good
Some more episodes into the series and Tanjiro defeats his first demon. What a ride it was! After the training, demon slayer trials await him. The fight with the Hand Demon was definitely an edge-of-your-seat-y one, and the stories of Sabito and Makomo were very touching.
Tanjiro’s fight with Kyogai was also a moment to remember. First of all, it was the moment around which we were introduced to Inosuke. But the fight itself was also great. It required a lot of skills and thinking, the rules were clearly established. And we can’t forget that Zenitsu showed his true potential around this time as well.
The Mount Natagumo Arc also made a lot of people realize the greatness of Demon Slayer. Fascinatingly frightening demons, indescribable cruelty, intense battles, big reveals — it was the first story part that felt like it had actual stakes. Watching Tanjiro almost lose made us a little bit nervous, but even more curious to learn how he is going to get out of it alive.
However, one moment is not always enough. Demon Slayer becomes truly special because it combines a lot of things. Demons’ backstories and how the anime tries to make us sympathize with the most brutal villains is something that makes the series stand out. Tanjiro, who has the biggest heart and incredible will, deserves a lot of respect. Nezuko, who’s only learning to control her powers, adds a couple of peculiar details. All of that works wonderfully together, and that’s why you may even fail to notice the exact moment you get hooked on Demon Slayer.
Let’s remember what made us fall in love with the series.
