What To Expect From Ron Kamonohashi: Deranged Detective Anime Adaptation

He's that deranged!

October has started with a bang: the first episode of a promising series Ron Kamonohashi: Deranged Detective has premiered. This show, based on one of the most popular series in the Shounen Jump+ online magazine, follows an eccentric but very effective detective, one who was the top student at Detective Training Academy Blue but then suddenly lost his license and went almost off the radar.

The lack of license didn't make him a bad detective; it's just he can't do any detective work officially now. So when he faces the opportunity to team up with the real police officer, Totomaru Isshiki, he accepts it and helps Totomaru solve cases, giving him all the credit.

The manga is ongoing and now has 12 volumes. It's made by Amano Akira, the person behind Katekyo Hitman Reborn! The manga follows the traditional "mystery of the week" plot, usually resolving the cases in 2-4 chapters, and we can expect the same episodic nature from the animated series.

In terms of the plot, the anime may be similar to Moriarty the Patriot, also focusing on some existential and psychological problems of the lore and people inhabiting it, sometimes delving into the social issues, though not going that deep into politics and dealing mostly with weekly cases.

The eccentric protagonist, an outlier who possesses a chilling ability, can showcase some ideological differences in the world of the show. But the main focus is the detective part: the cases, the murders, and a bit of humor that comes from Totomaru being not very skilled and from Ron being a bit overwhelming at times.

This dynamic, however, can feel a bit tiring and overused. But the first episode establishes the chaotic and fun nature of the show, despite the manga delving into some deeper topics later on. This journey is promising to be a quite diverse one, mixing the deranged part with seriousness. The balance of comedy and story, alongside the dynamic between the two main characters, is what will establish the show's footing in this season.

Right now Reddit is pretty much satisfied with the premier, paying a lot of attention to Ron and saying that "he will become a very popular character" and that "he looks like he came out of hentai", which is not a bad thing.

So expect a lot of uniquely solved mysteries with a hint of supernatural this fall.
