Where's That Genshin Anime? We’re Tired of Waiting

A teeny-tiny update, maybe?

Summary:

  • Despite it being a game, Genshin Impact is very close to the anime industry.
  • A Genshin Impact anime was announced last year.
  • There haven’t been any updates since then, and fans are frustrated.

Genshin Impact is an open-world action role-playing game. We’re sure you don’t need us to tell you about it much, because for the last couple of years the game has become so big that it’s difficult to have never heard of it if you’re even a little bit involved in the gaming or anime industry.

Why anime?

This is a fair question when we’re actually talking about a game. But Genshin Impact has always been very close to anime. First of all, it’s got an animated art style, typical for eastern media. A lot of famous Japanese seiyuu are involved in the game. Only a couple of months ago two Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) stars joined the cast as Neuvillette (Kamiya Hiroshi) and Wriothesley (Daisuke Ono).

If you go to an anime-themed cafe or an anime shop, you’ll definitely be surrounded by Genshin Impact merch as well. With so many connections, it was fairly obvious that an anime must happen. And last year proved that.

Do you play Genshin Impact?

No updates for an entire year

HoYoverse and Ufotable announced a Genshin anime project in September 2022. A concept trailer was released, and everyone was super hyped. Not only were they working on an anime in the Genshin Impact universe, but it was Ufotable that was animating the series. This was meant to be perfect!

However, more than a year has passed by, and there haven’t been any updates about the anime. There have been a couple of anime-styled promos, though, which also further increased the frustration about the lack of news. We can see how good the future anime can look, so give us at least something!

Fans are not even asking for a trailer or visuals anymore, they just want to know that the project is still in the works, it’s not forgotten or canceled. They do understand that the production of an anime might take years, and they do hope Ufotable will take their time and will not pull a “Mappa” on us, but updates (even small ones) are very important while you’re waiting for something.

Genshin Impact celebrated its third anniversary on September 28th, and a number of people thought that HoYoverse would reveal some new information about the upcoming anime, but it was all in vain: we never got any details. So now we don’t even know what to expect and when to expect it.
