Chainsaw Man is not the only thing Tatsuki Fujimoto has to offer.
Fire Punch is a manga series written by the author of Chainsaw Man, Tatsuki Fujimoto. It explores a dark and depressing story of the boy named Agni, whose body is constantly burning.
The story begins in a world that's been frozen over by the Ice Witch. Getting food in this world has become an issue, so Agni uses his regeneration ability to save the inhabitants of his village. He keeps having his arms cut off in order to feed the people. One day, Doma, who possesses the power of flames which cannot be put out until his victim is dead, visits Agni's village and he's so repulsed by the cannibalism that he decides to burn the entire village.
Due to his superhuman regeneration abilities, Agni cannot die. He cannot put out the fire that Doma has unleashed upon his body, either. And now he has to adjust to the pain and start his revenge quest.
Reading Fire Punch is one the most emotional journeys you can even experience while reading a manga. This is a story that can make you feel all kinds of emotions: anguish, sadness, depression, happiness, anger, disappointment. You will be terrified by the horrors the manga offers as well as delighted by rare moments of glee that this series has.
But be prepared because it can easily leave you disgusted as well: the first few chapters alone touch upon such themes as cannibalism, death, rape, incest, zoophilia, and this is not the full list of things you can encounter while reading Fire Punch.
But why is a story so dark and depressing actually so good? Some fans think that it is exactly because of being like that. We don't normally see these horrors in regular anime, and that's what makes Fire Punch stand out. Fujimoto has proven that he thinks outside of the box for many times now, and this is what attracts the fans so much. His stories are fresh, they're full of unanticipated and uncommon ideas and plot twists.
Fans also mention the setting of the manga. The author managed to build an eerily beautiful dystopian world full of cruelty and anguish. The endless winter serves as a marvelous opposition to Agni's burning body. It embodies the cold and lifeless journey that the boy's life has become.
Characters are also one of the strongest suits of Fire Punch. While being brutal due to the world they live in, they are not void of emotions and personalities. It's always entertaining to watch them even if they make you feel absolutely disgusted.
As you can understand, Fire Punch is definitely not the manga for everyone. It contains dark themes and twisted events. But if that doesn't scare you, this series will be one of the best experiences in your life.
