Undead Unluck's first part is over. The second cour will follow on January 5.
Over 12 episodes the main characters have traveled a long, eventful path.
In Episode 12, the battle has just begun and much is left unresolved.
Undead Unluck's first part is over and now the series will take a short break. The second cour will follow on January 5. The title is another outstanding fall season newcomer, although it didn't gain the same popularity as Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren).
Despite viewers criticizing the pacing and some directorial choices, this anime has a lot to offer. For example, the first cour's last episode was a success, but why?
A grim plot, but an unserious realization
Undead Unluck's story revolves around Fuuko and Andy. They have superpowers, which prevent them from living their lives in peace. Both characters are not at their best in the show's beginning, but they team up to get what they want. For Fuuko — it's control over her ability, and for Andy (don't be surprised) it's death.
The show's underlying message is dark and sad, but it's surprisingly light-hearted. This is the first thing you notice when watching the show. The characters act funny, and Andy's desire to make Fuuko fall in love with him seems strange and sometimes silly.
The first cour was eventful. The heroes just met, but they were hunted almost immediately. They started a confrontation with a special organization consisting of people with powers as the protagonists, but in the end they became part of the Union.
Fuuko and Andy learned that the organization was fighting to protect the world, so they began to help its members in missions. Heroes even visited several countries in the course of their tasks. All this in 12 episodes!
Good choice
In another mission, Fuuko and Andy had to enter an event where people were being sold. This action took up the last 2 episodes and a lot of new and interesting elements were shown there. First of all, the main characters' goal was to find Negator, who is supposed to be the new Union member.
Fans were very impressed with the touching story of Chikara (Unmove) and his fearful, indecisive character. We were not shown whether he will become a new organization member and we will get the answer only in the next cour.
Another entertaining part was the villains introduction. They are an organization of evil Negators, led by Rip (Unrepair). Their target is also Chikara, but they want to kill him and transfer his power to a more capable Negator.
The villains in Undead Unluck have recently appeared (except for the evil god who gives missions to the organization), and this is an important development, as the show finally has bad guys who affect the plot and have interesting personalities. In episode 12, the confrontation between the main characters and the villains has just begun.
During the first scuffles, Fuuko defended Chikara and was badly injured. It is unclear what will happen to her. Will Andy protect his partner and will Chikara show his skills? The stakes are high. It was the perfect ending for the first part. Probably a lot of fans are excited.
