Will Kaiju No. 8 Be Worth Watching? Manga Readers Answer

Will Kaiju No. 8 Be Worth Watching? Manga Readers Answer

Well, the first season definitely will be.

Summary:

  • Some otaku wonder if Kaiju No. 8 will be worth watching.
  • Manga readers agree that the premise is interesting enough, but the manga gets generic later.
  • The anime will probably only adapt the most interesting part.

The Spring 2024 anime season looks… somewhat odd. Sure, it has a ton of highly anticipated sequels — but if you haven’t watched the first seasons of these anime, you might be struggling to find something to watch.

Sure, there will be nothing as big as this season’s big hits — but that doesn’t mean there won’t be anything to watch. Perhaps the most hyped-up new project is the anime adaptation of Kaiju No. 8 (Kaijuu 8-gou). As such, many are wondering if the anime is going to be worth watching.

The diehard manga fans hype it up

Of course, diehard manga fans will say that it is the best thing ever. That’s nothing new: manga fans tend to always hype things up, and it’s easy to start expecting too much because of that.

However, not everyone who reads the manga thinks it’s the best thing ever, and more level-headed takes provide some insights into whether it will actually be worth watching or not.

The first arc should be good

Kaiju No. 8 is a manga serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump (technically, in its online spin-off). As such, you already know what to expect from it, pretty much.

Some of the most popular manga have been serialized there, and there are many common tropes you can find in battle shounen series. Kaiju No. 8 doesn’t exactly do anything new in that regard — that said, the premise is interesting enough to make it somewhat popular.

In a way, Kaiju No. 8 is similar to series like Chainsaw Man — with the main character discovering powers that turn him into a human-kaiju hybrid and then going to fight against kaiju (giant monsters). The premise is cool, if a bit generic — but we rarely see kaiju in Shounen Jump manga.

As such, most manga readers are convinced the manga is worth trying out — and the anime will be too. While you shouldn’t expect it to be the best anime ever, it will probably be good — Production I.G. is a very respected studio too. The manga becomes somewhat generic later, but the first arc should be good.

Remember not to watch it on X

As the anime is airing very soon, fans are once again reminding you not to watch it on X (formerly Twitter). It will stream on Crunchyroll as well, and while anime airing on X is an unusual publicity stunt, the video and audio quality on the platform are simply atrocious.
