No official confirmation, but we really hope so.
Summary:
- Frieren: Beyond Journey's End boasts incredible popularity worldwide, and fans are already wondering if it is going to get a sequel.
- There’s already enough content in the manga for another season.
- It will probably get announced, but it might not come out for a while.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren) has caused an uproar in the community. It proved that non-action anime can get popular if they appeal to a broader audience. And while yes, Frieren does have action, it’s not why we love it, after all.
The anime being a hit has prompted some questions from fans. Despite the fact that there are still 6 more episodes to be released (the anime is scheduled for 28 episodes, and right now, only 22 are out), fans are already sad it is ending too soon.
Of course, because of this, how likely is Frieren to get a sequel? Well, there’s currently no confirmation, but all the signs are pointing towards it getting one — eventually.
Why we love Frieren
The popularity of the anime is incredible, both in the West and in Japan. In the West, it’s arguably the most discussed anime of the season, despite continuing from Fall — and it’s even beating out series where the source material has had a dedicated fanbase for a long time, like Solo Leveling.
In Japan, the anime has very high ratings on television, and parents use hero Himmel as a role model for their children.
This basically makes Frieren a new worldwide phenomenon — which isn’t a status that many non-action series achieve nowadays.
Despite that, the popularity is easy to explain: it combines classic fantasy genre with amazing animation and visuals, and has interesting themes and realistic characters on top of that. Not every arc of the series has action, but when the anime does go into fighting territory, it is downright gorgeous.
Enough content for another season like the current one
The manga has quite a lot of content ahead of the anime. The anime is probably ending with the conclusion of the First Class Mage Exam Arc, which will be at Chapter 60.
After that, another season of the same length and pacing will get the anime to the point where the manga is now — there are currently 124 chapters out, and the last finished arc is the Goddess's Monument Arc, which ends with Chapter 119.
It looks like the source material is still going to continue for a while, and that’s a good thing. Frieren is the kind of work that can be just a relaxing adventure, and we always want many arcs of those: the character interactions in the show are top-notch.
It will probably happen, just not anytime soon
If the second season is announced — which is very likely because of how popular the anime is — it won’t be out for a while.
Thankfully, fans are content with waiting for a while: after all, they want the sequel to look just as great as the first season does, and Madhouse can take their sweet time with it
