Another MAPPA discussion.
Summary:
- 12 episodes were not enough to show the true Chainsaw Man.
- The next manga arc would have made anime onlys-fall in love with the series.
- The MAPPA controversy makes people worry about the future of the Chainsaw Man adaptation.
Criticizing MAPPA has become a real trend for the last couple of months, and Jujutsu Kaisen fans are not the only ones who’d like to join the discussion. Chainsaw Man fans have been waiting for the anime adaptation for a long time, and this series was one of the most highly anticipated series last year. Despite the anime being a success, fans still have issues with the project, and they can’t help but worry about the future of their favorite series.
12 episodes is not enough
The main issue fans see with the adaptation is that MAPPA decided to go with a one cour season and release only 12 episodes. While the arcs that were animated are still pretty enjoyable and engaging, manga readers beg anime fans to understand: this was just the prologue. 12 episodes were not enough to show the power of Chainsaw Man and explain how unique and outstanding the series is.
The anime stopped right before the Bomb Girl arc, and fans feel that this was a mistake. This is the arc that would make so many viewers fall in love with the series completely. But we didn’t get to see it animated, and all the controversy surrounding MAPPA makes fans worry that we may never get the chance to see the second season.
It’s unfair to say that the Chainsaw Man adaptation is of poor quality. The animation is incredible, the atmosphere is fascinating, and the aesthetics alone are enough to make you want more. But the story was lacking something, and manga readers blame the studio for not being able to deliver.
The future of the Chainsaw Man anime is worrisome
This all brings us back to the issue of production and the number of projects that MAPPA has taken on. They can’t afford producing more episodes due to all the animation controversy. Most of the huge projects for the past few years have been animated by MAPPA, and these are the anime that attract tremendous attention, so they especially need more time. Right now, Jujutsu Kaisen should be the priority for the studio, and that’s understandable. But what about Chainsaw Man?
It’s obvious that the sequel is wanted or, well, needed, so if MAPPA wants the profit, they will definitely work on it. Especially since all the production rights for the Chainsaw Man adaptation go to the studio alone. But at this point fans are just nervous about the future of the series and are unsure about MAPPA producing the sequel.
