We know you probably miss Violet Evergarden as much as we do. So we’ve made a small list of anime that will remind you of this iconic series.
86 Eighty-Six
If you loved Violet Evergarden for its military themes, there’s a high chance you’ll enjoy 86, too.
The series takes place in a dystopian future where a long war has been going on for years. Juggernauts are machines fighting in this war, but they are all piloted by humans, called 86. They aren’t treated like proper human beings and are often discriminated against.
The series follows two people in this world who form an unlikely bond and struggle with the consequences of war and discrimination.
Just like in Violet Evergarden, almost each episode of this series is a new story with new characters, but the main protagonists stay the same and help others deal with their issues.
Quindecim is a mysterious bar, where people are taken after their death and judged by arbiters. They’re forced to play dangerous games that will reveal their darkest secrets and show their true nature. After the game is finished, arbiters decide whether a person is going to be reincarnated or sent into oblivion.
But if Violet Evergarden is so dear to you because of how absolutely heartbroken it left you, this series will be perfect to make you suffer even more.
After the death of his mother, Kousei, who used to be a magnificent pianist, is so traumatized that he can no longer play the piano. But the eccentric violinist Kaori is about to turn his life upside down and bring the colors back to Kousei’s world.
Where to watch: Crunchyroll, Funimation, Netflix
I Want To Eat Your Pancreas (Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai)
This one’s a movie, so it won’t need much of your time to break your heart.
The protagonist is a quiet and reserved bookworm, who has no interest in other people or even the world he’s living in. One day he finds a peculiar handwritten notebook, which turns out to be the diary of Sakura, one of his classmates.
Later he learns that she is terminally ill, but fails to feel any sympathy for the girl. Despite being polar opposites, these two begin to form an unlikely bond.
If you don’t mind some sci-fi elements added to the drama, this series will be a nice choice.
In the near future, humans coexist with androids named Giftia who look just like regular people. The only issue is that the lifespan of these androids is limited to nine years and four months, after which they begin to experience personality degradation and memory loss.
This becomes a major problem for Tsukasa, who is partnered with one of the Giftias, a beautiful girl named Isla. Her time is running out, and he can’t help his feelings, but is there any chance for a happy ending?
