5 Fan Approved Anime for Newbies To Watch on Netflix

There’s a high chance you’ll love these ones!

We know how hard it is to find a great anime to watch. And it’s even harder when you’re limited by your subscription. So if you’re an anime newbie and are looking for a series that will open the beautiful world of anime for you, these are the series you might want to try.

1. Dorohedoro

This anime is a peculiar mixture of genres, since you may find action fantasy, comedy and horror among them. If you’re not a fan of gore and violence, this might not be a show for you, but if you don’t mind it, try it and you won’t regret it.

The best thing about Dorohedoro is that it’s only 13 episodes, so it’s easy to binge watch in one day, and that Season 2 was recently announced, so there will be a sequel.

The series is set in the near post-apocalyptic future and follows Caiman, who has a reptilian head as a result of a sorcerer’s magic. Along with his partner Nikaidou, he’s trying to find the person who cursed him.

2. Pluto

A comparatively recent series that came out in Fall 2023. Be prepared, though, since the episode length is not typical for anime: each of them is 40+ minutes, so it might take you more time to finish. But if it doesn’t scare you, go for it! Pluto is worth your attention.

It explores the world with humans and robots and follows detective Gesicht, who is sent to investigate two murders: one of a beloved robot, Montblanc, and one of a renowned robot rights activist.

3. Great Pretender

If horrors and murder mysteries are not your thing, and you want something more relaxed, you should try Great Pretender. But don’t get too relaxed, since it involves criminals and heists. Don’t worry, though, it’s hilarious!

Great Pretender tells the story of two con men who meet by accident, become partners and continue their journey together. The anime is 23 episodes long, but they are divided into four arcs, called "cases". So if you are not in the mood to binge, you can easily watch arc by arc.

4. Delicious in Dungeon (Dungeon Meshi)

Since we’ve started talking about comedy series, we have to mention the true gem of this season, Delicious in Dungeon. The mixture of comedy, fantasy and cooking might sound confusing, but trust us when we say that you should give this series a chance.

A group of adventurers loses their friend to a dragon, but they’re confident: she can be saved. So now they’re trying to rescue their friend, while cooking dungeon monsters to survive.

5. Violet Evergarden

Let’s also add some drama to our list in case you want to spend a couple of evenings crying. First, this series will show you how much of a visual beauty anime can be. And second, Violet Evergarden will also prove to you how deep and emotional anime stories can get.

An ex-soldier, Violet, is trying to reintegrate into society after the war is over and learn more about human emotions as well as help them with their issues.
