Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren) has so many characters that it can scare even the bravest Game of Thrones fans.
But fear not, their interactions will charm you so much that it won’t be difficult for you to remember all of their German-sounding names. And we’d like to talk about some of the best dynamics we’ve seen on the show.
5. Übel and Land
This is a very interesting couple of characters, indeed. Watching them interact was a lot of fun, and it’s mostly because of how different they are.
Übel is quite cunning and eccentric, while Land is much calmer but just as dangerous. They both understand who they’re dealing with and try to be as careful as possible, but we sense some ice-melting between these two in the future. And is it just us or were they actually flirting with each other a bit?
4. Kanne and Lawine
You don’t have to ship them to enjoy their interactions, but if you do, they get even better.
Although Kanne and Lawine spend most of their shared screen time fighting, it’s obvious that they deeply respect and care for each other. They’ve been together since childhood and learned how to understand each other well.
There’s truly a special connection between these two, and when it’s needed, Kanne and Lawine can put their differences aside and show the world how it’s done.
3. Frieren and Himmel
Only #3 instead of #1, but there are just other dynamics you might like better.
The relationship between Frieren and Himmel is one of the most important things in the series. There wouldn’t be Frieren: Beyond Journey's End if not for them, since Himmel was the person who changed Frieren so much. His love and devotion are fascinating, and we desperately want to see more of them.
2. Fern and Stark
Fans are confident: these two are meant to be together at the end of Frieren, and we’re prone to believe that.
Fern and Start are always bickering, arguing and fighting, but it’s never malicious. There’s definitely genuine care between these two, and we can sense it. Even when Fern is pouting at Stark and doesn’t want to talk to him, viewers find these two absolutely adorable.

Finally, our number one. It’s actually surprising that the most beautiful relationship in Frieren is not a ship, but a somewhat mother-and-daughter dynamic.
Although Frieren is much older and more skilled than Fern, it’s often Fern who teaches Frieren things about life and human interactions. Their bond is the most endearing thing in the series, they are special for each other.
Himmel was the person who made Frieren reevaluate human bonds, but Fern truly taught her what they mean and how good it is to have someone by your side.
