Some cool sequels are going to come out in July, along with some new anime projects.
In a lot of cases, the Summer anime season of any given year is weaker on average. Sure, there are sometimes standout series — like Jujutsu Kaisen S2 last year — but it’s been observed through the years that summers are usually the most forgettable seasons.
This one is probably not going to be an exception, but we’re still getting a fair share of cool anime.
Tower of God Season 2
Tower of God (Kami no Tou) was the first manhwa adaptation produced in Japan that actually became somewhat mainstream. It is commonly thought to be the best one, too, but there was one huge issue with it: it was obviously unfinished.
The source material is very long, and the first season was just one cour long. Ending on a cliffhanger certainly didn’t help.
Oshi no Ko Season 2
Oshi no Ko is a good example of how an anime on any given topic can become mainstream — it’s just the execution that matters.
Problems of the Japanese entertainment industry — and, more specifically, idol industry — normally interest only more experienced otaku, but Oshi no Ko managed to capture the audience’s attention with a great first episode and then keep them engaged with a well-written character cast.
The Monogatari series started in 2009 with Bakemonogatari (and even earlier, if we’re talking about the light novel). It’s kind of crazy that it’s still going on — and it still has quite a large following.
The main story is already over, yes, but there’s still a new anime project announced. Two of them, in fact: Off Season is adapting assorted stories throughout the timeline, and Monster Season is going to be a continuation of the main story. Out of these two, the former is coming out in July.
Isekai Suicide Squad
Every now and then, we get anime based on Western property, but it’s rare for something as mainstream as Suicide Squad to become a full series and not just an animated short.
However, we’re finally getting a Suicide Squad anime this Summer, except… it’s an isekai. It’s impossible to predict where the plot will go from there, but fans are cautiously optimistic.
My Deer Friend Nokotan
This is not an anime that many people have heard about just yet, but it’s already been noticed by Japanese fans. This is going to be a bizarre, Nichijou-like comedy with a lot of random humor. Or, at least, that’s what the trailer suggests.
It’s really impossible to explain My Deer Friend Nokotan (Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan) even if you’re familiar with the manga, so look at the PV instead — which looks very good, too.
