The Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) fandom is notorious for their wild theories and heated discussions. Even now when the finale of the manga celebrated its 3-year anniversary, you can still find a couple of theories resurfacing each month.
So let’s look at some of the most interesting theories that fans used to have back when the series was ongoing, and praise the fandom’s creativity once again.
- Shifters Weren’t Human
Attack on Titan has various eyecatches that give viewers more details about the series’ lore. One of them caught the attention of some fans and generated a peculiar theory.
The eyecatch portrays a cracker and shows how to eat it, and fans found it weird. Who doesn’t know how to eat a cracker after all?
They thought it was part of some sort of a human manual that taught Shifters how to behave like regular people. This led fans to the idea that Shifters weren’t mere humans, they were closer to titans instead.
- Zeke Was the King of Titans
Get ready, since there are a lot of theories about Zeke. The Beast Titan was really the most enigmatic one, so we understand why the fandom was so interested in him.
Since the Beast Titan was the only one who could speak while in the form of a titan, fans thought he was special. They had an idea that there was a titan hierarchy and Zeke was their king since he was so different from the rest.
- Zeke Was Grisha
Another theory is that Zeke was Grisha Yeager. Eren’s father used to be one of the most mysterious figures in the anime. He disappeared during Season 1 and no one knew what happened to him. The only thing we were confident about is that he had something to do with the secret of titans.
When Zeke was first shown in his human form, he did look like Grisha a lot. Of course, his hair wasn’t dark, but fans ignored that. After all, he could’ve dyed it, it’s not an issue.

This is the last Zeke theory on our list, we swear. Some fans also thought that Erwin’s father was the Beast Titan.
They both have blond hair, and we know that Erwin’s dad also wore glasses. There were hints that Mr. Smith knew some crucial secrets about the world of Attack on Titan, so it would make a lot of sense if he turned out to be alive.
It was one of the most popular theories, and many fans truly believed it. But turns out, the story didn’t lie to us: Erwin’s father was really dead.
- Armin And Erwin Are a Special Breed of Humans
Armin and Erwin are truly alike. Their appearance and their wits are just on another level, and even the characters of Attack on Titan noticed some similarities between them.
That’s why there was a theory that they might come from the same clan, just like Mikasa and Levi. But unlike the Ackermans, Armin and Erwin’s clan had another superpower. They were inhumanly intelligent and had an incredibly high level of intuition. We do agree that their knowledge seems out of this world sometimes.

So imagine a similar thing happening to the Attack on Titan characters. What if it’s also just part of a very explicit reality show, and characters are just mere actors, meant to entertain the audience? What a plot twist that could’ve been!
- Eren Was the Father of Historia’s Child
Definitely one of the most popular Attack on Titan theories. There were thousands of fans who really believed that Eren was the father, even though it was said it was the farmer.
The chemistry between Eren and Historia was undeniable, and we know they’ve discussed Historia having a child. So could it be that it didn’t end with the discussion?
Moreover, Erehisu (Eren & Historia) is one of the most popular Attack on Titan ships, so there were hundreds of fans who wanted something to happen between these two.
It would’ve been rather poetic if it had turned out to be true. Since this way there would’ve been part of Eren left in the world of Attack on Titan even after his death.
- Modern Technology
The world of Attack on Titan does look like a post-apocalyptic one, but this fan theory takes it to another level.
What if Attack on Titan was set in the future, and not in a fantasy past? Imagine something terrible happened to modern civilization, and people lost all of their technological advances, and were forced to fight an army of titans in the remains of this world.
Some fans were confident that Eren and the others would find some modern technology in Grisha’s basement that would hint at the fact that smartphones or laser guns used to exist in this world.
