A Sign of Affection Season 2: Fans Don’t Think It’s Ever Coming

It was fun while it lasted.

Summary:

  • Season 1 finished airing, but Season 2 hasn’t been announced.
  • Episode 12 features anime-only scenes that feel like the conclusion of the story.
  • There’s little hope for Season 2.

A Sign of Affection (Yubisaki to Renren) Season 1 finished airing on March 23, 2024, and we’d be lying if we said that we weren’t upset by this fact even a little bit. The series is almost everything you’d expect a shoujo romantic comedy to be: light, fun, and absolutely adorable, so it’s natural to miss it.

Although the finale of Season 1 is nowhere near the ending of the manga, it’s still unclear whether there will be an anime sequel. Season 2 hasn’t been officially confirmed, and there haven’t even been any rumors about it possibly happening in the future.

Season 1 finale

The finale indeed felt like a goodbye, the main leads are finally together and they seem to be in a good place. Side conflicts are also resolved, there are no more secrets and uncertainties.

This is the best place to finish the anime adaptation. Yes, there are still some questions about the future of the characters, but these are the things that every viewer can think about for themselves. Season 1 has a somewhat open ending, and it works really well for the series.

There’s little hope

A Sign of Affection anime is a very faithful manga adaptation; it follows all the same events and doesn’t deviate from the source material. However, Episode 12 made a couple of changes that fans see as clues that Season 2 is never happening.

Yuki was dreaming of traveling with Itsuomi, she got a job because of that, since she needed to save some money for their trips. And the finale of Episode 12 shows us Yuki with her passport. It wasn’t in the manga, and fans think it’s a big deal.

It feels like the passport scene was in the anime to add more conclusion to the series. The anime is not going to explore Yuki’s work struggles and travel desires anymore, but it wants us to know that the girl will travel with Itsuomi in the future.

The Shin and Emma date moment also wasn’t in the manga, and fans think it’s another upsetting clue that the anime is over. The series wanted to solve this issue and give us a happy ending for these characters, too.

Of course, it’s still too early to get upset, since everything can change and Season 2 might come one day. But for now it feels like A Sign of Affection is really over. This is sad, but we’ll have to find a way to accept it.
