Black Butler's New Season 4 Trailer Animation Under Fire

Black Butler's New Season 4 Trailer Animation Under Fire

Should we be worried about the upcoming adaptation?

Summary:

  • New Black Butler trailer is out.
  • The trailer is criticized for poor animation.
  • It's too early to draw conclusions.

Black Butler: Public School Edition (Kuroshitsuji: Kishuku Gakkou-hen) has finally revealed a new trailer, but the gleeful feeling of excitement was darkened by a couple of things.

First, there was no Sebastian in the trailer, and fans can't help but wonder why. He's the most crucial part of the story, just like Ciel, and not even seeing a glimpse of him feels like a betrayal.

Studio change

However, the part that makes fans worried the most is the animation in the trailer. Of course, it's too early to draw any conclusions from just a couple of trailers but it makes us wonder what the quality of the final product will be like.

The Black Butler series has undergone the animation studio change, and A-1 Pictures, who were responsible for the adaptation before, gave way to CloverWorks (Spy x Family, The Promised Neverland). And viewers wonder if it's a good choice.

Unsatisfying animation

To be fair, fans think that the character designs are incredible, and the still frames are impeccable, but the animation itself is what bothers them. There isn't enough motion, and most scenes that you see in the video are just still frames with little to no animation.

However, we know how talented people at CloverWorks are, and they've proved it multiple times in their previous projects, so we have a feeling that the entire project shouldn't be judged just by a single trailer.

On top of that, a number of fans would like to remind us how poorly some of the scenes in the first Black Butler seasons were animated, and they definitely see a significant improvement in Season 4.

Nevertheless, the first seasons aired long ago, and it's obvious that the animation techniques were not as advanced back then as they're now, so the improvement of quality is a must. The question is just how much of it are we going to get?

Season 4 of the series is such a desired thing that it feels like a dream come true. A lot of fans didn't even think that we would ever get another animated Black Butler project, so they're just happy they were wrong.

That's why most of them don't think we should draw any conclusions about the upcoming season just now. It's only a trailer after all, and there will be so much more to see in the final product.
