Crunchyroll’s Anime Awards 2024 Left Vinland Saga Fans Heartbroken

Not a single win? Really?!

Summary:

  • Despite being nominated for multiple categories at Crunchyroll’s Anime Awards 2024, Vinland Saga won none.
  • Fans feel that the series deserved to win the Anime of the Year award.
  • They are very disappointed with the Awards.

Crunchyroll’s Anime Awards 2024 has caused a lot of controversy in the anime community. It feels like everyone except Jujutsu Kaisen fans found something to be upset about. But the anime that got the worst treatment was, without a doubt, Vinland Saga.

The series didn’t win in a single category

Vinland Saga Season 2 was nominated in 5 categories: Anime of the Year, Best Continuing Anime Series, Best Cinematography, Best Drama Anime, Best Main Anime Character. And the series didn’t win even a single one of them!

The second season of Vinland Saga has been receiving praise since the moment it aired. Deep and thought-provoking philosophy goes hand in hand with stunning visuals and one of the greatest examples of character development in anime history.

Thousands of fans consider this series their choice for “Best Anime 2023,” and there are various critics who agree with them. Should we remind you that Vinland Saga Season 2 became IGN’s Anime of the Year?

That doesn’t mean that other companies have to agree, but it does mean that the series is outstanding and deserves at least a couple of victories, right? Crunchyroll would beg to differ.

It could have won at least something

Fans understand that there have been plenty of astonishing anime series lately. After all, the finale of Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 aired last year, too, so it’s only natural that such huge titles would get their wins.

However, Vinland Saga is also huge (and also animated by MAPPA, by the way), so it deserves the same treatment as other big projects. We are not saying “let it win all the categories,” but come on, let it win at least one of them!

While Vinland Saga fans agree that a category like Best Drama going to Attack on Titan was more than deserved, seeing Jujutsu Kaisen as the Anime of the Year fills their hearts with disappointment and even rage. They call the entire Awards a robbery and don’t even want to take it seriously.

On top of that, seeing series like Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer completely dominating the Awards makes it even worse for the Vinland Saga fans. They know these series are immensely popular, and deduced that they would win in some categories, but the results were shocking: while JJK celebrated 9 victories, Vinland Saga had none. And they just can’t believe it.

Do you think Vinland Saga Season 2 should have become Anime of the Year?
