Fans’ Impression of A Sign of Affection’s Itsuomi Changes With Each Episode (and Always for Good)

We love getting to know him.

Summary:

  • Itsuomi has been criticized before.
  • Episode 5 portrays him in a different light.
  • Itsuomi is very straightforward and genuine.

Itsuomi’s character in A Sign of Affection (Yubisaki to Renren) has received all types of feedback: from loving sighs to disgusted looks. And we have to agree that the initial impression that he was giving wasn’t the most positive. However, it might be changing.

Criticism of Itsuomi

When we met Itsuomi for the first time, he was giving off aloof playboy vibes. It wasn’t clear whether he was interested in Yuki; his intentions were a mystery and his behavior was questionable.

However, Episode 5 does a lot to make you understand what kind of person Itsuomi really is. And it seems like he’s not that terrible after all.

The main point of the criticism surrounding Itsuomi is connected with the way he behaved. He ignored Yuki’s personal space without asking for her consent. Itsuomi seemed rather possessive at times (when he hid Yuki from Oushi), and it was unclear whether he even liked Yuki back.

He’s not like that, really

The personal space seems to be the most heated debate in the fandom, but A Sign of Affection solved it pretty easily. Itsuomi mentions Yuki telling him that he is allowed to do more things than other people, like, for example, touching her.

He took it even further in Episode 5 when he asked her what it really was that he was allowed to do. And Yuki told him “everything” because she’s head over heels in love with the man!

The new episode also proved that Itsuomi does indeed feel something for Yuki, too. We can compare his behavior when he's with Yuki to when he’s with Emma.

Despite fully understanding that Emma has a crush on him, Itsuomi doesn’t treat her any better out of kindness or pity. That’s why his care and affection for Yuki feel genuine. This contrast between him interacting with Emma and Yuki is one of the things that leaves no doubt: Itsuomi is attracted to Yuki.

Fans have also noticed how straightforward Itsuomi is. He doesn’t try to hide his feelings, he tells Yuki that he started learning sign language only for her. He doesn’t give Emma any false hope. Itsuomi is open and sincere.

The latest episode also shows that Itsuomi is nothing but a perfect gentleman to Yuki. He’s had plenty of chances to use her or take advantage of her, but it’s not something he’d like to do: he is just a genuine character who feels something for a girl.

Do you agree that Itsuomi is sincere and straightforward?
