Fans Think the Attack on Titan Final Season Part 4 Trailer Does Levi Dirty

Some things in the trailer were… questionable.

Summary:

  • Fans didn’t like how the trailer portrayed Levi’s feelings.
  • Levi and Eren’s relationship is very important for both characters.
  • It all may be just a misunderstanding.

The new (and probably the last) trailer for the final part of the Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) anime has been recently released and we’ve already talked about little things we noticed and some expectations for the finale. But the more time fans have to look at the trailer, the more things they notice.

Did you enjoy the new AOT trailer?

Feels like this time Levi is the one the fans are upset with. To be more precise, it’s not the character himself, of course, but rather the way his emotions are portrayed in the trailer. To understand why the fans have beef with this, we have to discuss Levi’s relationship with Eren for a second.

Levi is always there to support Eren

Despite the fact that a lot of viewers have a strange feeling that Levi hates Eren, this opinion has little to do with reality. The scene where Levi beats Eren up in the first season is used like no. 1 choice to shut up all Ereri shippers in every other debate. However, that might be the wrong choice.

All Levi has ever done was protect Eren and help him grow as a person and a soldier. The captain is the first one to comfort the boy when he feels insecure; if Eren needs saving, Levi is the one that rushes into the heat of the battle alongside Mikasa. Eren is the closest person to Levi after Erwin and Hange, and both the manga and the anime show the importance of their relationship. Levi has become somewhat of a father figure to the boy, and saying that he hates Eren is very questionable. We are not suggesting you shipped these two, but their connection is impossible to deny.

Why so angry, then?

This all leads to the trailer scenes where Levi is fighting Eren. Fans have noticed that Levi shouldn’t feel this much rage and anger towards Eren as he does in the trailer. The outraged desire to fight the titan shifter doesn’t fit into Levi’s personality, and fans are upset that this scene was changed so much compared to the manga.

In the manga, every choice the Survey Corps makes hurts them deeply. And Levi is no exception. He is in pain, and we’re not talking about the physical one. He doesn’t want to kill Eren, and he admits that there has been so much he wanted to say to the boy. Just like Eren’s closest friends, Levi is heartbroken.

There’s still hope that there was a misunderstanding, and this scene from the trailer is not the one from the manga that fans are thinking about. But the fans are right, this might ruin one of the most interesting relationships in Attack on Titan.
